Going to submit the 1861-D to PCGS for a “mint error” designation @ WFOM. I’ve been told, if approved, the coin will be straight graded somewhere between AU50-AU55. Definitely worth a try for this piece of history.

One of my favorite Type-3 gold dollars. NGC VF20. San Francisco mintmark. A coin that was used in commerce. Lots of detail for the grade and beautiful original surfaces.

Here is my only "old gold" Proof coin. The Type III Gold Dollar is the most common pre 1933 gold coin as Proof. The story was jewelers bought them. If true, there should be more impaired examples.

And this is my most under graded piece. This is graded MS-65; I think that it is better.
