Completed my V Nickel Set

ad4400ad4400 Posts: 2,161 ✭✭✭✭✭

I've been working on my PCGS Registry set of V nickels since 2011. This week I made the last big stretch and acquired the 1885, which is the key for the set. I had long assumed that would be the show stopper, both in terms of cost and availability, but with patience, persistence and better circumstances, I was able to acquire the coin pictured below. While a lower numeric grade than the rest of the set, I find it better than average for the grade, and still fitting within the overall look: strike is nice, no major dings and a pleasing patina.

I am pretty certain this marks the end of this journey. The set was in slow motion, with the prior acquisition (1886) made in 2020, and the last 'active' period of acquisitions coming in 2018. See my tag line for a link to my digital album if including :)

Very nice set. The 85 fits in nicely. Very nice for the grade as well.
