Thoughts on the 2026 mint and proof sets

Do you think there will be greater demand for these being the last year a cent will be them. Also with the new Semiquincentennial design.

How do you know subsequent mint sets won't have a cent?

I believe they will be included as they say they will be making the cent in the early part of the 2026, being it has the blanks.>

I meant 2027 and beyond. I suspect cents will still be included in sets going forward even if they aren't made for circulation. I hope they are anyway.

  • I hope to see them in the future set also. I started my collecting from cents, and I'd hate to see them gone forever.

making 2,000,000 cents for mint sets would probably be cost prohibitive

The supposition this year or next year will be the last with a one cent coin is short-sighted and not grounded in facts. Beyond that anything else is no different than looking at the tea leaves and throwing darts at a guess.

the mint has already come out and said there is an end date already for the remaining planks on the last contract. they estimate the end will come in 2026

Price will never keep up with the S&P 500

Why would that be? Private mints produce items with mintages far lower than that on a regular basis. The mint produces "instant rarities" with mintages far lower than that.

My main concern is that the mint will intentionally make a limited number of them, and charge high prices, or worse that that turn into in another "get lucky" lottery. Place your order. Some people get cents; some people don't.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    poor verbiage

produce an expensive cent for the set and the set becomes more expensive

of course price considerations have gone out the window now
