Ok, I've taken it as far as I can go with Jack Sharkey. He has some other really cool cards but I just can't find the photos to match up with them, it's frustrating as heck, but that's the name of this game, it can be disappointing at times. But it can also be very rewarding, it's pretty darn cool to see the photo that was used for the 1938 American Sweets Jack Sharkey, one of the rarest cards on this planet.
Up next, "Sailor" Tom Sharkey, legendary Irish heavyweight from the 1890s and early 1900s. First off, Tom Sharkey was built like a tank, not an ounce of fat on the guy, his legs were like tree stumps. Tom Sharkey was an aggressive, crude, and ferocious in-fighter and brawler. Relying on relentless forward pressure, raw physical strength, and immense endurance, he consistently threw looping hooks from every angle, often fighting without strict regard for traditional technical boxing rules. To put it in simple terms, he was brutal. You can honestly take one look at the guy and tell he was brutal, the battleship and star tattoo on his chest, the hematoma auris (cauliflower left ear). He was perfectly willing to bleed, to be mutilated, to walk through a meat grinder to get you. This is my favorite photo of Tom Sharkey, he looks hard as nuclear pasta, and believe me, he was.
Just want to take a minute to congratulate the New York Knicks on winning the NBA Finals, ending a 53-year championship drought. Good to see a blue state take down a red state, considering the Republican party and their supporters have gone full-blown 1930s Germany. Congrats Knickerbockers.
1909 Jeffries' Championship Playing Cards - King of Spades - Tom Sharkey. I'm not sure which way he's supposed to be facing so I'll post both directions.
1910 V153 - Robertson Candy Co. - Tom Sharkey. Pretty sure this is the photo they used. My goodness, look at his build, his legs, the muscles are practically trying to escape his body. He was powerful, of his 40 wins, only 3 men escaped without being flattened.
So my buddy asked me yesterday if I was going to watch the UFC White House event, I couldn't believe he would ask such a stupid question. I told him, I've had a chance to look over a lot of the pages in the Epstein files, and the person currently occupying the White House is accused of doing sick things, sick things, horrible things.....to kids. I have zero respect, zero respect for anyone that supports that monster.
