Celebratory impulse Buff upgrade!

ShaunBC5ShaunBC5 Posts: 1,793 ✭✭✭✭✭

Yesterday, after a year of classes, study, and test-prep, I passed the Certified Financial Planner exam and was in a town with a coin shop (had to travel to take the test).
I got done a little early and sought out the shop to see about finding a coin to celebrate with.
They had a lot of decent stuff, much of which was beyond my limits for the day, and I landed on a 1914-D Buff in PCGS MS64. I usually don’t duplicate coins I already own, but as you can see by my tremendous, nearly-professional-grade bathroom cell phone pictures, it’s a significant upgrade (and I was going to get rid of the old one, anyway).

Yes, that’s a significant upgrade lol!
I imagine it’s the new center piece of the collection.
And congrats on passing the CFP.

Congratulations on a great upgrade and passing your exam. A very nice buffalo in an older holder. I remember getting excited as a kid in the 60's putting Nikadate (not sure how to spell it) on dateless buffs and finding a 1914-D. Probably still have a couple somewhere.

Thanks everybody. It was my first coin purchase since the Tucson show in January. Definitely my best Buffalo so far. Maybe I can display it with my raw 14-D Lincoln. Maybe I’m on my way to a 14-D full year set?

Congratulations on passing the exam. You and I are at the opposite ends of the timeline - I passed the exam 40 years ago, as one of the “pioneers”, lol.

It’s a great profession, and you’re positioned to help many people. Even today, I get tremendous satisfaction knowing I did well for my clients.

By the way, great Buff pickup!

    Thanks, guys!
@winesteven thanks for pioneering, going ahead of me, and giving guys in our profession a good name!
I quit a decent job/career in mining/supply chain to chase this dream and I’m loving almost every minute of it (the lead up to the test had some less than enjoyable minutes, honestly  ). It’s awesome getting to help people every day in this way.

    A worthy and significant upgrade!

Your old coin wasn’t bad looking for a circ example, either. Nice grey look.

Thanks! I enjoyed it for several years and wasn’t looking for an upgrade. I wasn’t going to pass the new one up, though, just because ai already had the date/mm.

Other than the streak between the "I" and "B" of LIBERTY and the dark area though the "9" in the date, I see nothing wrong with the coin not receiving a 65.

The knot on Iron Tail is exceptionally well struck, as well as the body of Black Diamond.

    Great choice!
