PCGS 1817/3 Bust Half

MeltdownMeltdown Posts: 8,970 ✭✭✭✭✭

I managed to take a few photo's of this one that I can live with.
This was a rather expensive impulse purchase for me about a year ago. I just love how visible the overdate is.
Feel free to give me some thoughts.

One of the coolest varieties for sure. The coin looks previously cleaned though.

Looks pretty nice for the grade from purely a technical standpoint. Lots of detail remaining. Gotta love the most dramatic overdate in the series.

I love this overdate as well. However, you have stated "Feel free to give me some thoughts" so I will tell you that I am not a fan of the look of this coin as it appears to have been dipped pretty well.

That is a beautiful coin to be sure. I think the original skin is gone though.

I love the variety (this is one of the very best overdate Die Marriages for CBH's, IMO) but the previous molestation would make it a difficult coin to love ... for me. The secondary toning helps some, and she may have benefitted from a few more years with whatever did that.

One of the most popular varieties in the series and very neat. Still has some luster in the protected areas; the cleaning is not uncommon for early federal issues.

I think it is AU with a weak strike. Very cool coin, I personally don't mind that it has been dipped with all the luster that was revealed.

The overdate is excellent. Did they net grade it to XF 45 with all that luster because of the scratches ?

I agree that it's been messed with at some point but also think it's market acceptable... mostly.
I think it's a techniical AU grade with quite a bit of mint luster still. Ownership does add a point in most cases. I really like this coin and plan to just enjoy it for what it is. I find myself swirling and admiring it pretty often.
