Personally, I have never met Mitch. We have only had (a few) telephone calls. I fear that a one-on-one conversation would never stop, no matter if the subject remains on coins or not.
Our family members would only wonder... image

First, let me say that it was not only my pleasure meeting Larry today, but the pleasure of my son, Justin, (Toneboy) as well image

We did talk coins for an hour and could have spent the rest of the day covering the may topics, but Justin needed to eat lunch and the hour was approaching 2:00 p.m.!

I got to see Larry's fabulous array of Peace Dollars and Larry got to see a few marvelous Type coins I was picking up at PCGS today.

Cutting through all the "BS" of the obvious differences in what we each love collecting (in Larry's case Peace Dollars and in my case "modern" silver Wash. quarters and other post 1932 -20th Century coins (and we did candidly discuss the problems with collecting BOTH moderns and classics such as Morgan and Peace Dollars), it quickly became clear that there were many more similarities than differences between us. These included:

    1. We were both intense collectors of the sets we were building (in Larry's case) / had built (in my case). We both would travel 3000 miles for the opportunity of obtaining a single coin for the set.

    2. We both would easily turn down an upgrade coin if we felt the coin did not improve the set. We discussed specific examples of both Wash quarter(s) and Peace Dollar(s) that were overgraded junk in the holder. Anyone that bought them would have been throwing money down the drain in our opinions. We agreed with each other and recognized that knowledge was the key to collecting ANYTHING, be it modern or classic. Warning against imprudent modern buying was just as useful as warning against imprudent classic buying.

    3. We both greatly respected the work Registrycoin accomplished in building his world class Commem set HIS WAY!!

I could go on, but I need to leave something for Larry to talk about. image

OK, this wasn't the Middle East talks resulting in "peace", but, it sure proved to me that ALL OF US ON THESE BOARDS IF PUT IN THE SAME ROOM WITH ONE ANOTHER FOR AN HOUR would become great friends.

I guess it is one of those times for a "group hug". image Wondercoin.

    and 46-64 dimes..
Have them all raw..but really have no clue how to grade them..and have no time to learn..

Kevin: I never collected PR69DCAM quarters. I was talking about 1932 and up MS silver Wash quarters. I showed Larry how coins like a key date 1935(d) quarter was still a single digit pop in MS67 but could possibly be had for under 5 figures. Meanwhile, some Walkers with pops higher than a coin such as a 35(d) quarter routinely trade at upwards of $100,000 (like a 1919(d) in MS65 with a pop of 8/1). No one is saying the Walker isn't worth every penny of that $100,000. All I was saying was I like the pop 6/0 or 7/0 1937(s) or 1935(d) quarter better at around 1/10 the price. I believe Larry saw the wisdom of my position and I also saw Larry's wisdom in pursuing Peace Dollars which trade well under Morgan prices for similar pops. image Wondercoin

Hmmm.......so my 1935 Peace Dollar is a classic coin while my 1932 quarter is a modern coin?

What PCGS considers a modern may be completely different.

I have to also admit that it was a pleasure to meet Mitch.I knew it was Mitch when he walked into the room, but I didn't want to say anything.I was really not in the mood to talk to anyone after going zero for 42 in upgrades.
But he asked if I was Larry..I said yes,and he did not hit me,so I knew all was ok image)
We started chatting and within only a few minutes I knew he was a sharp guy..and also a real coin guy.
I give him alot of credit for being very good at what he does.
I did tell him why I was unhappy with a few things he has done in the past.He explained himself...and we got into better subjects real quick.
I also have to admit that hearing someone's voice..and seeing them in person is alot different than reading their words on a CRT.
I am a big boy,and can now say I can become friends with Mitch without much trouble..we have the same love and passion for coins, and that will never change.
    Registry..you are next !
    Love is in the air..
Back to planning my ANA trip.
