A twist on my Type Set

Russell12Russell12 Posts: 310 ✭✭✭✭

For my PCGS Tye Set, modern coins tend to be common and boring so I am trying something different. My modem series coins are all varieties. This speared bison, Kennedy Half is no FG, Roosevelt dime is no "P", Lincoln Shield is VDB-"V", Presidential Dollars are missing edge lettering, Sacagawea is the Wounded Eagle, State Quarters are the WI Extra Leaf High.

Sounds familiar, except for the "extra V" Lincoln Cent 🤔.

Great idea! I wonder if we could have our host make up a couple of these "special" sets? I also would like to know what's a V VDB coin?

It’s a ‘controversial’ V that is struck just to the right of the VDB on the 2023 cent. It’s listed as a VDB V

Good way to keep it interesting and a bit challenging.

I'm assuming all your type coins are slabbed?

All PCGS AU50 or better, now it's getting tough

Okay, thanks. I'm an album guy. I like your idea of modern variety types. I made a custom page of moderns types for the back of my 7070.

Cheerio Dollar and wounded eagle for Sacagawea Dollars. Extra leaf Wisconsin, and spitting horse Delaware Quarters are my favorite modern varieties.

I went with high leaf WI for the state quarters, do not have a cheerio dollar, outside of my budget

Nice way to set it apart from the rest and make it a bit more challenging.

I have thoughts on a couple of them.

The 2009 Formative Years cents present a number of striking doubled die reverses in which Lincoln’s left hand appears to have two thumbs. There are 8 separate DDRs listed for the issue in the Cherrypickers Guide. My favorite two are the FS-803 and FS-804.

For the silver Rosies, 1946 has a couple strong DDOs that I like.

    The FS-102/804 (it’s a DDO & DDR)

    And the FS-104
