I have never posted on the stamp forum before because I am a coin collector.

I ran into this piece while we were selling my mother's estate pieces. The appraiser told me that it is a stamp holder that may have been attached to a watch chain from the 1870s.

Do any of you know any more about there pieces? I found the subject matter and the detail on this piece quite interesting.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

You might try contacting the USPS Postal Museum in Washington D. C. as they may have a collection of postal related items such as this. Nice detailing on your example and it seems to be in very nice condition as well.
