Kennedy SMS Rolls - Should I buy or not

I have many 1964 and before Kennedy and Franklin half dollar rolls, both BU and Proof. I have been thinking of getting one roll each of 1965-1967 Kennedy rolls, just to have. Are the SMS rolls typically seen on Ebay and other venues advertised as SMS truly that? Should I just get a BU roll of each, since they are less pricey? What say you?

No. Save your money. Don't waste it on something common like SMS Kennedy halves.

Common coins are also fun to own, study, etc. Numismatics is about more than just making money. Maybe you'll find a previously unknown variety or something in there. Publish what you find here or wherever, I'm sure some folks would be interested.

Buy what you like of course, but since you asked, I'd collect the set, one of each date/mm 1948-1970 (last silver)

Those coins are only 40% silver. They don’t do much for me from the numismatic point of view. As a collector, I won’t buy them. If you want speculate in silver, buy 90% silver coins.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

If you want 1965-1967 rolls of halves then I would suggest you just buy BU rolls. I can’t recall anyone ever asking me for quantities of SMS halves. Beware, though, these are 40% silver and I have always found that 40% silver trades at a discount to its actual metal value due to the low percentage.

My advice is that if you want them then but them as they are relatively cheap and plentiful.

I think it would be more interesting to buy enough sets to make a roll. Then you have the other coins too.

    what's the point?

if you were selling rolls of sms coins, would you sell the valuable ones or the dogs?
