I pm'd with Martin and we discovered we grew up close to each other and went into some of the same local coin shops when we were children and young adults. His home in Middlefield, heart of the local Amish community, is about 15 miles due south of me. I wish I'd have known he was living there. This will sound strange, but although we never met and only knew each other casually here, his face looks familiar to me. Perhaps we passed on the street or somewhere in public and never knew it. He always struck me as a humble, unassuming gentleman.
With each passing day and loss the World becomes a little less interesting. RIP.
aside to @Oreville, did you ever stop into the Rascal House or the Euclid Tavern while you were in Cleveland??
Absolutely. Also ate at the Last Moving Picture Company restaurant on Euclid Ave. i worked for the Glidden Paint Company which later merged as Glidden-Durkee at the old (later torn down) Union Commerce Building on Euclid and 9th Street. This is the area where I met Emery Norweb numerous times.
Met him at a show in Vegas many years ago when I was first starting out, he took an hour of his time to tell me cool coin stories and other tips in the industry. Great guy, RIP.
Terrible to hear this. He was a wonderful contributor to the numismatic community. I enjoyed taking in his Portraits of Liberty booklet that he mailed to me in August of 2011.

We can all aspire to lives lives so as to warrant thoughtful praises and well-wishes when we pass. There are very few on this planet that equal or come close to the qualities that made up Cardinal. He will be sorely missed not only to those who knew him intimately but also those he had an indirect influence on.
Wow, sad news.
Seems more often than not we hear someone we know well or know vaguely but in our circles so to say, and than poof.
Here you have Martin at age 64, that's nuts.

Very sad to hear this. My condolences to his friends and family.
We communicated via PMs and lived reasonably close. I wish I had the opportunity to meet him now.

Another one of the great ones have left us way too early. Condolences go out to all family and friends.
A while back Martin mentioned he wanted to get his Libertas Americana tokens slabbed in PCGS multi-token holders. I'm glad he was able to do so!

Met him once at a PCGS lunch and we chatted for a while. Really nice guy. Didn't really get to know him beyond that encounter. Sad news.
