PCGS Reconsideration question

I've got a $10 1907 Eagle MS64 in a PCGS Gen 3.1 holder (over 20 years old). I think it could grade MS65 or MS64+ based on my limited grading knowledge. Does anyone have thoughts on whether an older slabbed coin is graded with more scrutiny than one in a newer holder? Or is the opposite true with more detailed technology? Just curious on people's opinions on whether I should send it in for reconsideration.

It would help if we had some high-resolution pics of your coin.

Older slabbed coins were generally graded more conservatively than they would be today, if that's what you mean to ask.

I personally would send it to CAC before a reconsideration. If you get a green or gold sticker the coin will be worth more in the old holder and the sticker will tell everyone exactly what you want PCGS to tell you. It was graded conservatively. That is what I do. BTW Is it a Liberty head or Indian?
1907 ? Liberty? no motto? with motto?

I agree you should send it to CAC stickering in NJ first to see if it merits a CAC sticker. Keep in mind there are two separate issues:
Once you’ve taken this first step, I do suggest that regardless of this result, you DO send it to PCGS for Reconsideration to see if you can get a plus or the next whole grade number to try to maximize value!
By the way, I’ve had success getting pluses with PCGS Reconsideration on coins that have just been newly graded months before! When a coin is first graded, and the grader only has a bunch of seconds to grade it and then move on to the next coin, in my opinion there’s a tendency, even if it’s subconsciously, to focus just on the whole grade number. But when a coin is sent in for Reconsideration, that changes the focus. While the grader may possibly not see the current grade, they do know that Reconsideration is being asked, so their focus changes, even subconsciously, knowing the person is paying their fee to determine if it merits a higher grade, even potentially just a plus!
Keep us posted each step of the way! Good luck!

Thanks to everyone for the responses; its really helpful. I haven't taken hi res photos of the coin myself, usually I get PCGS TrueView with coins I submit. The coin is a 1907 No Motto Indian Gold Eagle. I've not submitted a coin to CAC before, but i like that approach, and I'll make sure to report back on the verdict. And I'll try to take a few photos and upload in the next few days as well. I slowly working on my Gold Type Set.
Maybe a truview?

1) I would show it to an expert in the particular series before doing anything else. If you don't know people, ask friends in the hobby. They can probably recommend someone. Best to see that someone at a large show.
If possible, contact him / her beforehand so your visit is expected. No point sending anything in if an expert in the field says it probably won't happen.
2) Reconsideration means in holder grading. You only get a new holder if it upgrades.
3) Older generation holders usually don't mean anything now. The nicest coins in these holders have almost always been tried for upgrades, CAC, etc. The coin could be in an older holder for a reason: it's maxed out. Now if you've owned it for twenty years, that's a different story.
4) CAC is picky about stickering coins. If your coin's surfaces are not original, you probably won't get a sticker. This in itself won't affect how PCGS or NGC look at your coin. PCGS and NGC have different grading standards for each particular coin in each particular grade. Have an idea of what the differences are before submitting and deciding where to submit your coin.
