Ebay automatic checkout?

Maybe I missed a thread, but when did Ebay start doing automatic checkout?
I had a bid in on a coin tonight that closed during the hockey game, and when I went to check on it after the game I was informed that I had won it and it had been processed using my ordinary checkout procedures and I had already paid for it. Roughly $170. Now there is nothing wrong here, but when did this start happening?

If I remember right, early last year is when it happened to me. Not sure if it is a seller's requirement or everyones.

There was a seller option that showed up awhile ago that required payment with BINs. The first I have seen with the pay at end of auction showed up about a month ago for me. It also gives you 60 minutes before it automatically checks you out, so you can pay with another choice than mentioned when you bid during that time.
eBay has been automatically checking out coins that were just on my watchlist for years now. How else could I explain the constant stream of coins arriving at my doorstep??
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
I have never encountered that. I always snipe with 6 sec to go, so maybe last minute bids are not impacted?
Been happening to me for quite awhile. As a seller, I do not recall selecting any option for my buyers to have to do that. And... kind of a hassle, when buyers end up purchasing multiple items.... ebay will then charge them for shipping with each one of the auctions. Takes away the ability to send a revised invoice showing combined reduced shipping. My customers still get that, but it necessitates having to send more refunds via a different route. Oh well, it's ebay after all.
Thanks all.
Here’s how to block the autopay on PayPal site

Not a fan. Automatic checkout cost me because it took money out of my checking account rather than paypal, causing several overdrafts before I caught it and had it changed. While I'm at it,also hate the Best Match option when searching for a particular denomination. Absolutely useless.
I brought this up a few months/weeks ago here
I contactd the seller and he claims he didn't do it, ebay did

I've noticed that too on my last three purchases. I think it's dumb. I'd rather control when and where the funds come from (CC, bank, PayPal balance, etc). Maybe there is a way to do that but I'm far too lazy to look. I don't buy much on eBay any more anyway.

Has to be recently within the last few months because I listed a pair of Jordan's around 2 months ago for 7 day auctions and back to back winners decided to never pay and so I had to start the 7 day clock 3 times before someone actually paid.
Edit to say: I like it in general I think they should be paid for right away would save a lot of the annoyance of people bidding and not paying. They should just make it quite clear when you make a bid that that's how it works though, shouldn't be a surprise.
Can't the deadbeats of the world, and they are legion, just return the goods and make up a lie about some imaginary problem?
Yeah I suppose that’s probably what would end up happening which is a lot worse than not paying. Only had that happen once I’ve been fortunate on the whole for sure.
