Can You Recommend a Worthy Colonial Coin Forum?

I’ve been looking for a colonial coin forum similar to this CU forum…. Yes, I’ve googled it, but those few that I’ve found typically seem to be message boards that feel like it’s 2005 all over again.
A C4 forum is non-existent, unless I’m missing it.
Thank you for your help and opinions.

I'd recommend that you build a friend group for discussion and feedback. One could do so via PM here. @MidLifeCrisis was once (and perhaps still is) a colonial collector. You might consider establishing a relationship with dealer John Agre as well who also might introduce you to others. Have you attended a C4 meeting at an EAC convention?
Just suggestions without knowing if these ideas have already been considered/explore. Wishing you the best!

You are right, there is not really a dedicated forum at C4 or for colonials similar to say the PCGS forum. There were a couple reasons for not having one, though some have also suggested the idea over the past couple years. There is a colonial coin google group (which I assume you are referencing with the “message board” reference, which I agree, is not a great platform for discussion and I very rarely even look at it. I find the most activity between C4 members is on Facebook. There are some active groups on certain series, and others not so active.
The relatively small total of collectors compared to other series with much higher coin populations make having an active forum a little difficult as only a handful of C4 guys seem to like internet/social media venues, though this is growing in popularity with recent generations of collectors.
I do think there will be more demand for a forum in the future, though that doesn’t really help you today!
Unfortunate that Colonials don’t get more attention here. I never thought of Colonials as a particularly esoteric segment of US coins.
Thanks folks, actually I do know John A, and I have been a C4 member in the past, but for no particular reason I let it lapse. No shocker that the C4 curmudgeons are a bit internet averse! 😂 Kidding, they always struck me as good and passionate collectors.
I’ve been collecting colonials here and there for decades, and I have a fairly comprehensive run of mid-grade Vermonts, minus the super rarities.
I tend to avoid the bigger social media sites like Facebook, Instagram and X, so those aren’t a great option for my needs.
Thanks again for your help and advice, I’ll continue to keep my eyes open.
Do you have a specific question that you would like to ask?
I have some nice "colonial coins" although some of them, which were issued after the Revolutionary War could be called "Confederate coins," not to be confused with the Confederate States of America.
I am a bit of a snob when it comes to this era. I like NICE coins. They don't have to be super high grade, but they need to please me. I have witnessed some C4 meetings at the EAC conventions which were interesting, but a super rare die varieity in dreadful condition is not my idean of fun.
This piece is only a VF, but it was nice enough for me.
I had wanted a representative Maryland coin for a number of years. This is most I have paid for a colonial era coin.
I’m on the same page as you Bill. Further, I can’t get past what I call expanded type for my sets. Same with all coins. Varieties and die states are interesting and likely fun and fulfilling to research and search for, just not for me. Closest I’ve come is New Jerseys, some cool and distinctive varieties (heads) I’ve included in my type set.
you can try MYCollect.com The site has a forum called US Colonials and it looked like 39 Members. However, it does not appear the site is very active ... I liked the concept that Ian set up with Mycollect where there are many special topics but there maybe just to few people in each area to build momentum.

No @Colonialcoin, thank you for asking though. This forum is great - I also collect early federal type, so it’s very useful. But given the scant coverage of colonials, I’m just looking for something similar in the colonial realm.
@BillJones I agree with your basic collecting philosophy! I always look first for eye appeal. Planchet quality, originality and color are super important.
Thank you.
I tried Mycollect and it was absolutely dead. C4 had a message board at least for a while, but it didn't take off. I mostly hang out on the regular collecting sites and hope for the occasional colonial subject to come up.
I think after a bit you’ll find the group here includes quite a few who will gladly engage in ANY colonial coin discussion. You might have found the forum you’re looking for

Start some threads here, communicate the opportunity to discuss Colonials on this forum where others will see it. Maybe it will build. It seems to have happened with other topics.
Start a Colonial thread. There are “permanent” threads here that are trivial in the extreme. Raise the bar.
