The coin that I'm currently searching for will most likely be the most expensive coin I ever buy and the pinnacle of my collection.
1870-CC seated Liberty dollar
CC
XF45
PCGS
Any generation of holder
Obviously original surfaces
CAC sticker
While difficult, it is definitely a dream that I can probably turn into reality, so not as lofty as the dream coin of many here. Lol!

1797 Half Dollar graded MS65+ in a PCGS holder + CAC sticker with attractive toning. OH hey, it already exists and last sold about 2 years ago at public auction.

No need to imagine a coin when something like this already exists.

1732 Milled Mexico 8 reales in any grade (authentic that has nice eye appeal). The first machine made dollar of all the Americas. About 60-80 still exist.
This is what they look like:
NFL: Buffalo Bills & Green Bay Packers
A nice half disme is at the top of my list. XF or better.
92 P Morgan dollar, dmpl, with the date covered you would think it was an 80 S
Strawberry Leaf cent in problem free VF found in a junk box at a flea market would be awesome. It could happen 😂

The holder, the grade, the look, everything here the same, except it’s a Chain Cent…

This one….don’t really care about what holder though since I’m not worried about resale, I think I’d opt for a CACG slab. PCGS slabs seem to crack often with $50 slugs, and with the CACG holder, that would not even be a concern. Also, the optical clarity is marginally better too.

It doesn't need much of a description, but my dream coin is a 1913 nickel. Any one of them would do. Not a buffalo.....
Heavy and Gold. Silly stickers not required.
This one would do. RGDS!
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

That one is a bit heavy.

First, I recently acquired one of my “dream coins”, a well-circulated, PCGS and stickered Chain cent. Would I like it to be higher grade? Sure, but I’m more than happy with it, I likely wouldn’t want to pay the price of a mid-grade, and honestly I prefer dreams that are achievable:
So now, what’s the new dream? Perhaps a similarly packaged, beautifully original, stickered, and well circulated 1796 half cent…I’ll be keeping my eyes open!
My dream coin is attainable. A high relief Saint with great eye appeal in a PCGS MS62 - MS64 gold shield holder with the anti-counterfeit chip. I have one more year of college to pay for before I make that kind of purchase.

Nicely toned 64+ 1875-P trade dollar with two interesting chop marks in the left obverse field (none on the reverse).
A natural 1797 Half Dollar, lustrous with color, well-struck with the noticeable die cracks on the reverse, in tissue and an envelope, with a provenance and a note from a founding father or relative of one to complete the story (preferably traced back to the family of James Madison as we share the same last name, and he was very instrumental in the crafting of our Constitution and other Articles of our Democracy).
In essence, a true national treasure.
Something that might look like this one.

This is an easy one. I even held it in my hands in 1979. That was the year I moved to a new town to start college. At that time I met the head of the local coin club. He invited me and 2 other college kids to visit his home and see his personal collection.
The fellow collected Bust Dollars. He had a complete date set and up until then I had never seen a single Bust coin of any type in person. Someone asked what his best coin was and he took out an 1803 Bust Dollar. It had deep steel blue fields with all the lettering and devices toned a dark gold. You could see yourself reflected in the mirror fields and the devices had a crusty luster that I now understand is what completely original luster looks like. i wo0nder who around here owns it now. James
I was joking around a little in my first post.
On a more serious note..Something like this:

that's a difficult question to answer. i feel like a dream coin wouldn't really need the grading/holder/sticker/etc which is mostly used to differentiate like coins. a dream coin is likely more of a one of a kind coin, right?

When I was collecting more I always wanted a gold error coin with a gold cac sticker in an older style holder. I owned several coins that ticked off a couple of the criteria but never found one that fit them all.
It has two c's on the reverse, doesnt have arrows and there are about 5 known. Most video games in an arcade take this denomination
1857-S double eagle shipwreck. They come so nice and I love the history of it.
Many years ago I had a dream where I got a 1942 nickel in change. In the dream it looked like an ordinary UNC 1942 nickel in the war-time silver composition. But when I turned it over, not only was it a "D", but it actually had two mint marks (large "D" above Monticello, plus the small "D" to the right of Monticello). Then I woke up. This literal "dream" coin was impossible since the only 1942-D nickels minted were copper-nickel and had only one (small) mint mark.
Many years later, after establishing a mint, I made some by over-striking silver "War" nickels. I made one improvement by adding a third small obverse "D" mint mark near the date. Also, they have full 6 steps, of course.
A 2000 P or D Sacagawea Mule that comes back MS67+ for beautiful bullseye rainbow toning from our host after I find it in a roll from my own collection.
And then gets a gold bean.
The odds aren't quite 0% soooo, I'm saying there's a chance.
The only part that's true so far is that I do have a bunch of original 2000 P bank rolls in my collection.

I haven't purchased a coin in quite a while, but I still have some dream coins:
Slabbed PCGS or CACG CC Dollar MS64 or higher / or $5 Lib AU 50 or higher - PCGS or CACG.
Easy answer. No description necessary. And I'd take it in that original presentation case too!
Jim,
We have the same dream coin. I'll take this one, auctioned in 2002.

I think mine would be one of those Indian cents struck on a gold planchet.
Digital, low or no transaction fees, decentralized, divisible, private, accepted globally. I guess I described Bitcoin.

Your example is fantastic!
I would be proud to own that coin.

Thank you @asheland ! I’m quite pleased with it…. My wallet is not without limit, and man it’s not easy finding a nice affordable lower grade example…
This one.
And after waking up from a dream where i happened to own the above coin, I return to reality and imagine the day (which though unlikely could actually happen) where I find and purchase OGP proof sets containing PF69DCAM [or even PF70DCAM] examples (with rainbow rim toning on both sides of the coins that frame the frosted central devices) of these coins.
