Hmmm, struck thru? Some type of lamination? If something with that much force struck the coin, wouldn't there be damage on the rev?

Yes, there would be. That's the best indication that the coin was produced this way, rather than damaged later.

Something was present at the time of the strike, and isn't present now. Whether you call it a lamination or a strike-through is mostly a matter of semantics.

  • But definitely a error that happen during the striking of the coin.....is there any premium value on a coin like this

Maybe soak in acetone to clean out the debris to reveal surface damage marks. Good luck. Peace Roy

Is it? Can a lamination also be a strike through? Probably not under all circumstances. A strike through can be anything, hair, grease, wood, metal. Does a lamination occur because some other metal got squeezed into the planchet roller or can it also happen as a result of a metallic strike through? How come we don’t see bi-metallic laminations? Or do we?
