Scootersdad FUN show report for 2025
Here is my experience/ opinions for this years show, yours may be different. Living about an hour away I could drive in for Thurs and Friday but prefer staying at Rosen Inn (cheapest). This year cost $211.50 and my coin club buddy split the cost. The perks are no parking fees, breakfast buffet ($20), Fun bus picks up every 30 mins and across I-drive are many restaurants, bars, CVS store.
As I approach retirement, the show has become less about buying and more about the experience and contacts
made thru the years. This years buildup was different as my daughter lives in Hollywood, CA and was evacuated weds night and not heard from until yesterday. I just got over the flu and could not fall asleep and last remember 4:20 AM before alarm went off at 7:00.
Drive over was uneventful and barely made 10:30 timeslot for NGC triathlon contest. My goals were also to consign to GC, get some calendars (thanks Ian for picking up the ball from our host), sell last 2 GSA's from my dads stash, maybe win a lithograph from Spider Press and buy the new CAC slab box. So by 12:15 all goals were met except CAC box purchase offered at $18 and quickly sold out.
Shout out to Northern Nevada Coin for giving a very fair price for GSA's. Attended Bill Jones seminar "Lincoln Cent from 1909 to 1949" and won my forth Spider Press print.
Friday is my favorite day of the show as I fell into the Vam rabbit hole and look forward to John Roberts "Top Vams for the year" and "Vam Thing" immediately following. This year had a curve ball because Seth Chandler had the WitterBrick show at same time. Free food and sample slabs were offered, so I saved $20 for lunch.
Shout out to Seth for finding ways to bring in young collectors to numismatics. I was late to John's presentation
but made entire Vam Thing.
Bonus I did score the new CAC box as that was my first stop and was very surprised the sign said "free" so thanks to Mr Feigenbaum!
If you made it to the end thanks for reading this post.
Contest results in... and confirms I really suck at grading(except Morgan Dollars) even if I've attended 2 ANA grading classes. In the adult class I scored 33%, 81st place with 6 correct, 13 wrong and 1 partially correct
Cool sample slab
My only purchase

"If you made it to the end thanks for reading this post."
This one was easy to get to the end - short and to the point. Thanks for the write up.

This. Just enjoying the show can be enough but always good to 'find' something also. Great that you had cost to a minimum also.

Nice report and we all still want to know if you opened the Witter Box?
Yes I have opened the box, but in the spirit of keeping this post positive. I'm working on a different post including the results added to "My worst numismatic blunders"
The suspense is killing me already!
