The joy of opening old Morgan bank rolls

The owner said his Dad acquired the few rolls in early 1970s and upon opening today all appeared uncirculated with each roll providing a pair of end roll toners <3

Very nice! Not very many true unpicked rolls of dollars to be found these days. Hope you got a few gems in there.

I could not find any VAMs but with the 83-O roll they all had the same die crack on obverse above date running left

Having the same die characteristic in the whole roll is almost definitive sign of original roll and folks not swapping out the better coins for lower grade.

What a thrill that would be handling an original roll of silver dollars.

Be interesting to hear the breakdown of what's in the rolls.

Throw a coin enough times, and suppose one day it lands on its edge.

    Honest question:
Were there "original rolls" of Morgan Dollars?
To my knowledge they came in canvas bags

Maybe a small piece of the roll paper can be put in the upper right corner of the slab like one of the TPG's is doing with pieces of canvas bags. :D

A year ago at a show, someone offered me a roll of raw 35 P Buffalo Nickels, all Unc. Looked at a few of them. For what he was asking and grading fees, I'd break even if they graded MS 64. Didn't want to take the time to sort through them and the risk of coming up short, so I passed. The difference between MS 64 and MS 65 would have made the purchase, and I don't know what to look for re the particular date and the series to comfortably make the distinction between the two grades.

I bet that is a lot of fun, and I used to be all about EOR toned morgans. Another thing I'd like to see once in person is an intact set/partial set in an old album which has resulted in premium toned coins.

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

From the Mint they came in 1,000 canvas bags but some banks, and maybe even dealers acquiring the bags, wrapped them in paper rolls.
