Just something about them that gets me excited about collecting!

To answer your question, the price many dealers want to charge for their gold CAC coins. Many coins with the gold CAC bean are priced at least two grades higher than the slab grade. I'd rather buy a PCGS MS65 coin than the same coin in a PCGS MS63 Gold CAC slab.

Good point, and guilty as charged on occasion!
There seems to be a market for them, and it's hot. Especially the old rattler 1st gen...
Chew on this one for a second--not mine in the end, but I did bid aggressively...
$3385 wow. Maybe they were thinking it could be considered for a 68 grade?..

I had one and was not impressed with it. I no longer own it. I considered it to be a mistaken purchase.

Many coins in old holders are conservatively graded, but not all of them. A green label is not a given that something is under graded or dead on for the grade.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I used to have an OGH CAC Gold Bean, but I sent in to be attributed. Then sent it back to CAC to be re-beaned.

    Lost the OGH.

    Gained the variety attribution.

What most interests you guys, nice coins, old holders or a CAC sticker?? You can only pick one.

It's interesting to me that the majority of coins pictured in this thread, dominated by holders from 1986-1993, tend to be untoned and brilliant as oppose to toned. That is remarkable evidence that in the space of 30 years the "tastes" or preferences of collectors has skewed towards toning.

Always nice coins my first priority, because without the good looking coin the holder and sticker lose meaning
