Has this happened to you on eBay?

WAYNEASWAYNEAS Posts: 6,787 ✭✭✭✭✭

I found an item in my eBay cart this morning.
It was looking for a payment for an offer that I made on their item.
It stated, "offer accepted, pay now."
The issue here is that I did not make any offer to this seller for his coin which was a Kennedy 2024-s pr69 silver coin.
What is strange, is that I did make several offers to another seller yesterday for his coin, which was also a Kennedy 2024-s coin but in pr70 Dcam Silver and in the limited edition series.
The offer acceptance price was identical in both cases.
The coin that I wanted was sold prior to us coming to an agreed price.
When I first saw the offer acceptance for the price that I offered to seller#1, I almost paid it.
Thank God that I researched the coin that was being offered in my cart.
These two coins are very different to those in the know.
I called eBay to tell them what was going on and of course they said that I had sent an offer to seller#2 which I did not as my offers are sent directly to the seller by email outside of eBay.
This way any conversation between me and a seller is recorded.
Of course, the CSR had no idea of what I was trying to convey to him about the two items being night and day.
I tried to tell him that the items were like a car, one being black in color and the other being red in color.
No luck there.
I did find out that the seller#1 was from GA and the other seller was from another state (CSR would not disclose the state).
CSR stated that "they would look into it."
All I can say to you guys is to be very diligent before you press that pay button especially if you have multiple items in your cart.
Another thank God that I do not allow eBay to automatically deduct from my account any monies because the seller "accepted my offer."
Happy holidays.
Wayne

I have noticed an annoying number of offers as soon as I click on or leave an item.

I am just looking for PUP'S

    Seems automated.

Is there something you did using a template that was copied?

No template. It just showed up in my cart.
I would never pay $175 (original asking price) for that coin.
It would be like paying $2,000 for a parking lot find, lol

You are not supposed to make offers via email outside of eBay platform. Are you trying to deny eBay their cut?

I have had stuff pop up after I have done a BIN that was you may also be interested in this - I have also gotten offers on stuff I have just viewed once.

Do you mean “recorded” as in over the phone?
If so, depending upon the laws of various states, that could be a problem unless you receive permission from the other party. That aside, the other problem is circumventing eBay in order to make your offers.

I think you probably accepted an automated offer you did not intend to. Keep your communications between you and sellers or buyers within eBay. There is a recorded history there, too.

No, by recorded I meant thru the email train.

I use eBay's contact the seller so it is thru eBay's platform but I get and receive the emails to my cellphone which I save.

Glad to hear that, too. So it’s back down to just one problem - the one which served as the impetus for your thread.😉 And that IS a problem. Thank you for the warning.

It might be related. I think the OP may have accidentally accepted an offer. If a would-be buyer contacts a seller, the seller had the option of sending an offer.

I don't know if any other way it would end up in your cart.

I recently received an email notice re: completing checkout for an item in my cart. It was for an item I had viewed and added to my watch list. When I went to My eBay to remove it from my cart there was nothing there. I figured it was just a electronic glitch.

    1. One / I don’t care to haggle with them.
    2. . Whatever I win (auction) pay for right away.
    3. If a seller does make an attractive offer and I buy it I pay for right away.
    4. Off the bourse try to have it all priced. If some haggling from players may drop price 5-10 pct if room to move it otherwise goodbye for them. Quick inventory turnover critical.
    5. If I buy something at shows I pay cash money.
