Sadly, this great player died way too soon, he was only 65 years old. The report I saw gave no cause of death.

you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
Very sad. In the twilight of his career, he played for the Red Sox.
RIP
RIP Rickey! We loved you in Boston for that short visit!
Interesting that I only see it on MSN.com; nothing on MLB.com or ESPN.com. Neither MLB Network or ESPN have it on their on-screen crawler either.

Reports say it was pneumonia.
RIP
According to TMZ, Rickey died yesterday (Friday, Dec 20th), after a bout with pneumonia.

Wow. So sad. I read he was hospitalized recently. I don’t get many shots at 68 years old but pneumonia shot is one that my doctor absolutely gives me and it’s not an option. Shingles and flu are on the no option list. Not sure if it’s a coincidence but haven’t had as much as a cold in 5-6 years or longer.
"I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.
Just confirmed by Matt Vaskersian and Harold Reynolds on MLB TV.

Wow! Only 65 - sad. RIP!

It wasn't just pneumonia, he must have had co-morbidities.
Terry Bradshaw was AMAZING!!

Wow...😢
This was a picture my wife grabbed last time she was with me to get an auto. She had been with me many times and after a while Rickey would recognize her and say hi.
Maybe they wanted to be sure they were sure he really died?

Exciting player. RIP.
What an athlete. Hit a HR in his 1st at-bat as a Seattle Mariner. It was electric! RIP Rickey.
Dave
terrible news. RIP Rickey
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
That's also why I did not believe it until MLB Network came on at 5:00 PM Central and announced it.

Rickey Henderson really transformed himself as a hitter. I recall him as a great leadoff man who was a singles type hitter, making contact and getting on base where he'd turn a single into a double. He brought electricity to any game he was involved in. Then at some point in his career he worked on his body, bulked up and added power to his game. Suddenly, pitchers had to be a lot more careful with what they threw him and he was on his way to an MLB record: most HR's by a lead-off hitter!! He made himself into the perfect combination of speed, power and grace.
Here's Rickey Henderson on his way to the MLB HOF. What a ballplayer!!
Dude that you never wanted to see playing against your team. Seemingly an automatic man on second, in a flash.
RIP
