completed quarters portion of my type set
Saturday morning with time on my hands and a walk down memory lane, it is turning out to be. As a follow-on to the Dollars section, I also completed my quarter section of my registry set in 2024. Here they are, with some history and thoughts. Comments welcome.
The capped bust has been in the set 15 years now and was part of the original album set, back when the goal was much less toning oriented. Originality and strike were the calling cards as part of the original album project. I had the coin reslabbed (purchased PCGS and made an album coin). While my eyes have sometimes been drawn to pieces with some color, I've always felt this one was technically solid and had nice circulated eye appeal.
The seated W/O motto was a new purchase in PCGS plastic once I committed to the registry route. The TV captures the coin beautifully. A stretch at the time, but funds spent at the time are long ago money under the bridge.
The seated W/arrows was another coin from my original 7070 album, purchased NCG, made raw, then reslabbed to PCGS. A stunning coin which I don't think the TV really does justice. I had tried to replace at one point, with a colorful 45+ arrows No Rays, acquired from fellow board member, was a POP 1 for a period, and featured at one point in article on + graded coins in the PCGS Market Report, but the current example was the easy choice to keep on a number of fronts. The + coin is/was now with yet another board member.
The seated W/Motto is a RPD variety and is currently a POP 1. There was a period where I had acquired a number of POP 1's by virtue of + grades and attributions and had considered pursuing that as an active goal, but decided against that as some of the prior POP 1s I had ceased to be so. Thanks for the board members who chimed in at the time with regards to merit of submitting for attribution. While there wasn't any significant value boast, I still like the idea of having the attributed coin in the album.
The Barber quarter brings back memories of the local Vienna VA coin show, nearly 30 years ago, and how cramped that venue was. You were always bumping shoulders and butts with follow attendees, but the show had some larger dealers for a smaller show (Angel Dees, Butternutt, Wayne Herdon, Reeded Edge) and was always a thing on those weekends when I lived close. Attending with a bunch of buddies, spying this piece and sending them over to get their independent opinions. I even recall the dealer saying "This is no gem". Purchased PCGS OGH 61, made an album coin then regraded PCGS 62, the coin has always suited me and my set just fine. I would say it is a bit brighter and lustrous that reflected in the TV.
The T1 SLQ was purchased new for the set and also resides in my SLQ date set. A piece I fell in love with instantly and super easy purchase. I think it speaks for itself.
The T2 SLQ was purchased ANCAS 58 FH back in the days of the Dullus VA coin show from Angel Dee's, and is pressing 30 years in my set. Part of the album for a number of years, and reassigned PCGS58 FH when time to go back to registry format. The piece was one of my inspirations to take on the SLQ date set project and a full SLQ album set years later.
The Silver Washington quarter was a newP for the registry project. It grades PCGS62 and has eye appeal out the ying-yang. Also happy with first year of issue status. I still have the original toned Washington quarter I got over on BST, as I'm coming around to not being able to fully retire the album project (just at much lower cost).
I started collecting in the late 70s as a boy, and was always entranced with wheaties, buffs and coins with silver content. The coins of the era never excited me greatly, and that has held true throughout my collecting life. Adding the modern coins to the album were finding nice pieces of pocket change. But being a set builder by nature, I felt compelled to acquire all the quarters for the type set. I didn't overthink any of these pieces, finding reasonably a pleasant 1967 SMS, a passably toned bicentennial quarter, and a statehood quarter for my current home state to round out the process.

Beautiful coins!!!!
Beautiful selections!
I really like the A&R quarter, as those seem so hard to find with nice color.
Wonderful collection of quarters!
Congrats, looks like you were very busy this year working on your set.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Nice!
Awesome collection and fantastic pics. Thank you for sharing!
May I recommend you add some W quarters to your collection?😎
Those are damn nice quarters! Congratulations on you set. That 1861 is sweet! So is the 1932!
Don't forget the draped bust type! Maybe an 1804 or 1805. You could splurge on a 1796!
Wow! Beautiful quarters!

Love the 32!

Any idea why the 32 Quarter only got a 62?
Nice looking coins.
Thanks for sharing! Not sure exactly why, but the coffee just tastes better while looking at coins here.
Thanks for all the compliments and comments. The quarter set in particular has been a long time in the works and it did the heart some good to include into the registry set a number of the coins form the original album. @fastfreddie , with regards to adding other types, I feel my efforts are done with the quarters, as I've 'filled the slots' for the registry set. Focus will now be on two the two remaining large copper pieces, then determine whether I get bit but the gold bug and try to fill those types. @stockdude_ and others who commented in the 1932, it is super nice. I'm not sure why it graded 62. I know conventional wisdom is that 62 should be a somewhat impaired MS grade, but the reality is I've found many stunning coins in that grade. It could be my 32 is a market grade. Maybe it is undergraded, maybe there is some technical flaw that I dont' recall. Still a wonderful coin in my eyes.
Thanks again, and best to all.
