Dollars done for type set / 2024 accomplishment!

For a while now, I've been transitioning out of my Dansco 7070 format into the PCGS registry format for my type set. Having an album sit in a SDB was just not a rewarding way to collect. 2024 saw a couple of milestones for the set, including completion of the dollars. Most of the coins now in the set were newly acquired as PCGS purchases.

Both the Trade dollars were acquired this year, as they escaped by budget when I was pursing the Dansco format. I looked for a good while, but then both toned AU pieces fell into place over the course of 2024. Several board members mentored me on this adventure and I am always thankful for the assistance that is available here.

The Trade Dollar has been in the set from the Teletrade days and was in my possession as I worked on the album, but I never had the heart (or guts) to crack it out and put it in the album. Now that seems like a smart decision. I did acquire one other Trade Dollar amount the way with the thoughts of cross it, but after a trip to the SDB, I decided the PCGS one is the winner.

The Morgan dollar also checked my box of having a CC minted coin in the type set. It was another one that never actually made it in the album (album having some generic MS peice). Purchased IGC for the color and mintmark and crossed at grade, perhaps not the most asstute financial decision, but its worked form me over the years.

The Peace dollar was another newP in PCGS plastic, as I sought out color to match the rest of the set.

The 73-S Ike was a nice cross result, going from NGC64 to PCGS66. Still paid a hefty color premium, but it will be a 'forever' piece. I was generally suprised to see the premium these more modern toners brought to market, maybe since the chances of them attatining this state natually in a shorter period is more difficult. This one certainly had the look for me.

The 76-S Ike grades PCGS67, and while certainly had a color premium attached, in this case, at an agregate level was bearable. I previously had a 'D' mint in this slot with a more celo type toning, but am now happier with the toning from the silver content here.

Same holds true for the SBA. While not a fan of certified pocket change. I do think it is a lovely piece, and worth treating oneself if it makes one happy.

The SAC was the last coin to be acquired. As a set builder I couldn't leave the slot unfilled. I considered options: could a natural toner be found, could some variety excite me, what was the max grade within a budget where the vast majority of price wasn't tied to grading fee? In the end I decidded to not overthink and I opted for a reasonable looking $12 coin.

Thanks to all for the comments. @Ridley06 , I don't see going after anymore dollars since I've checked the boxes for the set. Thanks to all who commented on the Peace dollar I agree it is a stunner (looks like we have some similar tastes @stockdude_ ). Now off the wonder whether to pursue the gold coins, and how I could swing the two earliest large cents (which in combination with the dollars were show stoppers on the raw endeavor version I).

Very nice set. I have only broken out one coin to have it regraded. My 7070's have been virtual album fillers.

    Nice work.

A vibrantly toned Peace dollar like that is particularly difficult to locate, as you certainly know.
