What are the most epic meltdowns from a manager/coach...that came from one you'd least expect?

Now all of us are well aware of the epic meltdowns from managers of coaches that are well known and infamous for them, like Earl Weaver or Lou Piniella or Jim Leyland. But when has it happened from someone who is normally the calm and/or gentleman-like manager or coach? Like, did Connie Mack or Tony LaRussa (who is seemingly a calm professor/scientist like guy) or John Wooden for example have a completely out-of-character meltdown towards an official or his players? Sure, Rick Pitino in his 90s UK days was known as a fiery screamer...but what about the calmer more southern gentleman preacher-like (yes my wife thought his voice sounded like a preacher!) Joe B Hall?

See, it's one thing when a meltdown happens from guys who you'd EXPECT to have them often...but what I'd like to see is meltdowns (towards either their players or officials) from the coaches or managers who (like that one country song says) would normally be the last one to raise their voice and/or say a bad word but...

Jerry Burns post-game presser when they won, despite 7 Field Goals from Fuad Reveiz.

He was defending his OC and old pal, Bob Schnelker.

Go to YouTube & watch it - great holidays viewing.

    Enjoy your collection!

Dennis Green and his 2006 "They are who we thought they were!" outburst at a presser. I didn't know him personally, but he always seemed to be a fairly cool and composed head coach as opposed to some of the real screamers out there. I remember seeing that and thinking, wow! coach Green is really pissed!

Billy Martiin could start a fight in a barroom by himself.

It wasn’t with a coach, but the near fist fight between Martin and Reggie Jackson was epic.

I recall Don Zimmer getting into it with an umpire. Think when he was with the Red Sox. Face to face with his full wad of tobacco in his mouth. I believe there was some drenching of the umpire.

You completely missed the point of the topic. Billy Martin was VERY infamous for that kind of thing! Especially against Steinbrenner. The idea was where someone who is normally a calm gentleman like figure who one day does go crazy against an umpire or something and people have their jaws dropped like they had no idea he of all people could get like that.

No offense but that's the complete opposite of what I was asking. People knew and expected Billy to be like that from the start. I'm talking about when something like that happens with someone who people would normally believe would the last one to do anything like that.

By all accounts behind the scenes he was as he was seen standing on the sidelines, very stoic and business like. He was an innovative coach. He was an old school approach WWII veteran who was all about the X's and O's behind the scenes. By all accounts he was all business and wasn't there to be the player's buddy. He has been described by some players as a father type figure who commanded respect from his players at all times. It may not have shown on his face but he has been described as one of the most passionate about winning coaches ever to stand on an NFL sideline.

So he was in football the way John Wooden was in basketball and Connie Mack was in baseball? Sadly in the end he ended up with someone who was TOO business-like. I always did find Jerry Jones to be very much the real life version of JR Ewing...both outside (if you put a cowboy hat on Jerry he really does look like JR) and in.

Sorry Estil, I have a hard time following instructions.

It was kind of like a couple years ago when I questioned why we have to make billions of new pennies every year (there should be more than enough already to go around?) but people for whatever reason misread that thinking I was asking if the penny should be discontinued (which that discussion also is about a dime a dozen) and I was not asking that AT ALL.

Another example would be you hear all the time about which players should be in the HOF...but I once asked how exactly do you know if an umpire in baseball or a referee in basketball or hockey is HOF worthy? I don't think the football HOF includes referees or officials. Not to mention how (I think) only the basketball HOF inducts announcers/commentators in the for real HOF and not some silly off to the side wing that "doesn't really count".

I was looking for a more creative kind of discussion you see, about the kinds of things you don't hardly hear about.
