@WQuarterFreddie The day that I start collecting coins because I think that they will “soar” in value is the day that I will stop collecting coins. I bought a phenomenal Pine Tree shilling a few weeks ago and the pride of ownership, showing the coin to other collectors and teaching them about its history is what I value.

Again, I only posted the article because I thought it was interesting because it mentioned coins I never knew existed.

I never said anyone should buy them because they will soar in value.

I agree with you that one should collect what they like to enjoy and share with others.😎

Surely that couldn’t have been the only reason you decided to post the article, and you didn’t make note of that reasoning in the OP. I have a hard time believing you were expecting others to be interested for the same reason 🕵️‍♂️.

I believe he's being honest. What other reason could there be?

I thought we agreed to disagree yesterday. You are now questioning my honesty and integrity so to quote you:

"in the interest of posterity, it's best to set the record straight."

I posted the article because I thought it was an interesting read. Also, I was hoping other members would agree with me that it was interesting because it discussed the 1794 Flowing Hair coin which the Mint just produced it's replica.

I copy and pasted the exact title of the article and my OP was as follows:

Article I read today. Link for those that care to read and comment:

    https://www.gobankingrates.com/money/wealth/rare-coins-expected-to-soar-in-value-in-the-next-five-years/

Interesting that they mention the 1794 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar😉

Instead, I am being attacked for promoting "clickbait" which I feel is an overreaction to the article by you and others which is my opinion.

You and some other members have an opposing opinion which is your right to express but you don't have the right to question my integrity.

I can see the potential if a different approach were used. Be clear about the kind of reactions you hope to see. How about this? Here’s a sample of what that post might look like.

What coins will increase in value?

I found this clickbait article that has some info that was new to me.

    https://www.gobankingrates.com/money/wealth/rare-coins-expected-to-soar-in-value-in-the-next-five-years/

What do you all think? Clickbait aside, what coins will increase in value over the next 10 years, according to your crystal ball, and why do you think so? (I’m OK if you post as many or few that you think of!)

@WQuarterFreddie was supposed to start the new thread, not me. I was only trying to be the mentor behind the scenes. I will pull my head back under covers and slink away. (Freddie - run with it! We need fresh viewpoints and thought-provoking questions. Have at it! The more questions the better!)

That sounds like a lighthearted and inclusive topic to here we can all have some fun speculating (but with effort). The only issue I foresee is that it’s not a very divisive or contentious topic, and it would pose a risk to Freddie’s 1st place spot in the number of discussions closed by a moderator 🤣.

Ouch. Are you trying to join me and NJ on the ignore list?

I don’t know what’s gotten into me lately, but I’d be happy to share that badge with NJ after his most recent triumph with the FHHR, somehow he was the only one that was privy to the level of interest these would generate.

Lol. You might want to check his earlier prognostications about the silver and non-privy gold before you jump in bed with him. He's below the Mendoza line.

Say what you will, but you all are cracking me up. Either it’s the Christmas spirit or a couple of adult beverages, but I am loving these posts. Once I get this cat off my typing hand, I think I will open that thread. :D

This is a fluff piece that was probably written by AI. Just so you all know, lol.

I opened a new thread where everyone can test their expertise and market knowledge.

    https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1109723/what-coins-will-increase-in-value-in-the-next-5-years#latest

It’s based on this, but if you were to rewrite the fluff piece of clickbait, what would you have to say? Let’s have ourselves some pre-holiday fun - I am warming up the grog!

Thank you for the kind words. Not to say I would be batting 1.000 otherwise, but, in my defense, my misses on the silver and gold non-privys were caused at least in part by the Mint playing games with Product Limits after rapid sell outs upon release.

No way to anticipate that, and still no clear reason for why they did it, since it has never been done before. It cost them significant money for no apparent reason.

This time, there were no moving parts, since they didn't announce 230 and end up auctioning 500 at the last minute. Or 120. They did what they said what they were going to do, and I ended up being right.

It's going to be a long time in coming, but don't be shocked if sets show up in 2026 with whatever they are going to be marketing in their "Best of the Mint" collection that include 25K 2024 silver FH medals and 7.5K gold FH coins.

If not, not, but right now that's the only plausible explanation for them pulling product at the last minute from a maximum mintage that they otherwise could have easily sold. And, as a bonus, if it does happen, maybe @jmlanzaf will have to consider ceasing his snickering at me while recalculating my Mendoza Line. In the meantime, even if I'm 1 for 3, that's .333, not sub .200. 😀

If the Mint all of a sudden cares about supporting the secondary market, someone needs to explain to me what they are doing with 2024 Morgan and Peace Dollars. After seeing what happened with the uncirculated coins, why didn't they pull product from the proofs and reverse proofs?

Maybe because they are not going to be included in sets in the future, so they actually want to sell as many as they can, up the maximum authorized mintage. Even if they can't actually sell nearly that many. So much for supporting the secondary market for their extremely overpriced bullion.

We're good, I hope. You and I have had some battles, but we get along in our own way. At least I hope we both feel that way.

Absolutely. Unlike some others, I thoroughly enjoy the give and take, take nothing personally, and even learn something once in a while. You never have to worry about me, but thanks for saying that!! 😀

Just so you know, I have NEVER complained to a mod, about ANYONE, and have never put anyone on Ignore. In spite of what some say about me publicly, or try to encourage others to do with respect to me.

At the end of the day, this is just an internet forum. If anyone ever has had enough, it's really not the end of the world to just disengage. I'll never understand why some people become so personally invested.

Thanks for the offer Martin, but I bought around 400 of them the past couple days since this ad started running. I appreciate the opportunity though, you are a gentleman and a scholar. 😎

Can someone please edit the thread so it ends back with the initial pictures of Barney Fife?

Freddie does have a rare (thank goodness it's rare!) ability to start threads that go sideways from the start. And keep going....

Mark, this thread should have been on page 2 and fading in to oblivion but you and some others insist on posting ridiculous comments. 🤪

I haven't posted on this thread for 3 days. Let it die....😉

Your paranoia is showing; that was my first post on this poor thread.

Not paranoia. Aggravation. You have posted 2 insults. Great contributor.🙄
