I heard it through the grapevine

  • And he hit me with a surprise left
    My jaw left hurting
    Ooh, dropped wide open
    Just like the day
Oh, like the day I heard

    Enjoy the go.

    Money, get away
Get a good job with more pay and you're okay
    Money, it's a gas
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I'll buy me a football team

    Money, get back
I'm alright, Jack, keep your hands off of my stack
    Money, it's a hit
Don't give me that do-goody-good bullshit
I'm in the high-fidelity first class traveling set
And I think I need a lear jet
    (Uoh, saxophone)

    Money, it's a crime
Share it fairly, but don't take a slice of my pie
    Money, so they say,
It's the root of all evil today
But if you ask for a rise
It's no surprise that they're giving none away
    Away, away, away
    Away, away
    Away, away, away

You can probably tell from my avatar that I'm a Yankees fan (don't hold it against me, I'm fairly decent otherwise). A lot of the team's fans are saying don't sign Soto and spend that $700M elsewhere. What they don't realize is that if they don't sign Soto, they're not spending $700M elsewhere.

We have a saying at work when deadwood leaves or gets fired, addition by subtraction. Not always wise to spend $700 MM, at some point the contract is a bust and leaves less money to spend on a quality player in year 7-12 of the contract.

Maybe not but I’d rather have Corbin Burnes and a lesser right fielder, anyway than just Juan Soto.

I’d rather the team improve as a whole than just bring back one great player.

With no short porch in right and no Aaron Judge behind him, it will be hard to replicate his 2024 season totals.

Sort of reminds me of an ebay auction where 2 bidders go all in and then some, while rest of competition dropping out at much less. Usually the true winner in those situations is the under bidder.

Not saying that will be the case here but it's certainly plausible.

Every MLB player with at least 3,500 plate appearances and a 150 OPS+ (which adjusts for era) before turning 26 years old in the modern era:
    Ty Cobb, 180
    Mickey Mantle, 174
    Mike Trout, 172
    Jimmie Foxx, 171
    Rogers Hornsby, 165
    Juan Soto, 160
    Eddie Matthews, 154
    Mel Ott, 153
    Hank Aaron, 151

If you lower the criteria to 3,000 plate appearances, you add Albert Pujols, Tris Speaker, Joe DiMaggio and Eddie Collins.

Successful coin BST transactions with Gerard and segoja.

Successful card BST transactions with cbcnow, brogurt, gstarling, Bravesfan 007, and rajah 424.

crazy money. great player. I like the fact the mets are trying to win. All the teams should try to win like this.

Work hard and you will succeed!!

Well you know as a Yankees fan the goal is to win the WS. Came close this year but no cigar. I'll still cherish the 2024 Judge/Soto show. I knew going into 2024 that it may be a one year thing so I took advantage and watched around 100 regular season games plus the post season. Lets see what they can do to plug some holes now.

Well, one bonus is Jasson Dominguez and Spencer Jones now have an actual path to the majors - maybe even this spring.

I’m quite tired of seeing us hold on to prospects that we can’t or won’t promote.

Good stats as long as the rumor he is older than 26 is not true.

They always said Pujol's age was a lie too and the guy played until he was in his 40s. Or was it his 50s?!?
