SGC ORDER

its been in post graded processing for 2 days, but they don't grade the 1975 tcma memphis gary carter any longer, which i found weird. they have graded 21 in the past. anyone know if psa still grades them?

    Great to hear. Congratulations.

How was the breakdown on the 70s?

it looks like they have a hard time going above an 8. I was surprised by my Nolan Ryan grades. 1976 8 (one soft corner, was hoping for a 7.5), 1973 6.5 (picked up on ebay for $20, one bad corner, but great centering. I thought i might get a 6), 1975 mini 7 and 1975 regular 7.5 (top left corner not great and the card was a little light colored but perfect centering, was hoping for 6.5). Most of the 70's were 7's, 7.5 and 8. I have many pop 1's because I sent in a few OPC.

the best grades from the 70's of other cards:

1975 opc griffey sgc 8 - pop 1 none higher
    1975 pete rose sgc 8
    1975 carl y sgc 8.5
    1974 rose sgc 8
    1973 reggie sgc 8
    1973 reggie opc 7.5 (tough)
1971 garvey sgc 7 - liked that one
    1971 simmons 6.5
    1969 nettles opc sgc 7
    1972 rose sgc 7
    1974 tanana sgc 9
    1974 parker sgc 8 - !!!
    1974 winfield 7.5
    1980 & 1981 walter payton sgc 9
    1972 stargell sgc 8
    1975 morgan sgc 8
    1974 marichal 8.5
    1975 carew sgc 8
1974 carew opc 7.5 (really awesome!!)
    1975 parker sgc 8.5
    1975 dwight evans opc 8.5 (!!!)
    1975 seaver opc sgc 8

got the grades today. mixed bag, total 150.

about 15 came back worse than i thought, more than a grade.

most came back like i thought and a few were a little better.

if i knew it had a flaw, the grade came back just as thought. if i thought it was a 9 it can back lower. lol!!!

    the highlights:

    3 10's 1987 topps uk rice pop 1, 1987 topps uk montana pop 3, 1992 fleer 7/11 frank thomas pop 1

    1985 mcmichael psa 9 pop 2 no 10's

several nice nolan ryan's from the 70's. overall decent.

Congrats. I was contemplating that 1987 Topps American UK set and wondering how they would be graded, whether PSA or SGC would be the best option. Now I know SGC will still go Gem Mint on a 1987 star player so glad to hear that.

Just had a pack come in the mail yesterday. Neither of these seem like 10s but can continue to try. But maybe an SGC 9.5. Do like that possibility.

Seems like a cool set. Like the miniature size, the team logo, the card stock and some of these pics look cooler than the regular 1987 set.

If the 1987 topps uk rice psa 10 is as hard to find in good condition as the regular issue that is a homerun!

    Pop 19 on PSA
    POP 1 on SGC

It's tough to get 10's on SGC. They seem to like centered cards though for the vintage and give out "fairer" grades for those.

I sent in a Joe Montana (1987 uk) to PSA and they gave me a 5 because it had rough edges. I looked through ebay and they gave out 10's for several that had rough edges. Took it out sent it to SGC and got a 10. It looks like a 10 to me. The rough cut should be a factor in the grade, in my opinion. But it didn't used to be for PSA.

Long and short of it is PSA got really big and has had thousands of different graders through the years. SGC is smaller and probably has many of the same crew grading (i.e. more consistent).

But as you can see, SGC makes it tough to get a 10. I have sent in a Rice card in each of my last two gradings and got a 9.5 and a 10. both are pop 1's.

The 1987 rack pack card of rice and this card are very very hard to get in 10's and should be exceptionally higher in price.

"1975" TCMAs are actually from 1976. They were also heavily reprinted. I would imagine one or both of those is the reason why SGC is no longer grading them.

"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
