unless the exchange gets hacked and can't make good through insurance or otherwise, than you are SOL. With that being said, I have used the Coinbase to buy and hold some crypto in the past.

If you could have bought $1000 in bitcoin in 2011 and now it’s worth like a billion dollars am I the only one that feels like I missed that boat. People are still buying thinking it will be them and if I had a billion dollars I would gamble it on bit coin now. I’m old maybe my brain is too old and in 100 years from now people will be thinking if only I was around in 2024 to buy bitcoin. What happens if you lose the thumb drive with your account and money on it. That’s how it works, right ?

No. If you hold your bitcoin at an exchange, there is nothing to lose.

Unless the exchange is hacked ?

I thought the thing with Bitcoin was to hold it in your own digital wallet and keep the code a secret ?
