The buyer is a 34 years Chinese blockchain entrepreneur. He is betting big on trump’s new crypto department or regulations and rules. Would physical bitcoin follow the hype and show up more in auction?

We all don't know how this will go but it is fun to post your opinions and check back in a year or two years.
Pretty sure art is just a money laundering scheme.
The substantial truth doctrine is an important defense in defamation law that allows individuals to avoid liability if the gist of their statement was true.
I don't know what one has to do with the other. Why not say "a 1933 $20 gold piece sold for $18.8 million, will physical crypto follow the hype?"
The buyer of this banana is big on the cryptocurrency. He is buying this banana as an advertisement
Man, I remember this the first time it came around. People are so silly, like who buys a million dollar banana!?? 😂😂😂😆😆😆 It makes me crack up.

The buyer created BCB, he is trying to get more eyeballs to his crypto BCB.
Maybe, but physical 24k gold with the classic first U.S. Dollar should be quite the "hyper."
Stay tuned, folks!
☺️
Art is what you can get away with.
It doesn’t matter how bitcoin will end up with but the most important thing is to participate and get on the train to ride the trend. I bought couple redeemed or unfounded bitcoins and I sold two already which I kind of regret that I sold them too early. I should have hold on to them for longer time. The hype is just started and it will take time to bust.
Stupid is as stupid does.

The buyer paid in crypto for the banana.
Normally I would agree with this sentiment, but come on man. 6.2 million for a perishable piece of fruit duct taped to a wall, that is beyond dumb. This same piece of "art" could literally be recreated by every five year old in the country.

The absurdity of it all is astounding. The buyer paid with something that has no intrinsic value. One could argue that the seller got a lousy deal giving up a reusable piece of tape and an edible banana.
Is it a real banana ?
If so, it won't last long in that condition, of course.
Although the auction shows a completed "sale" for the item, that doesn't necessarily mean that it was a legitimate sale.
Perhaps it was a publicity stunt or marketing gimmick ? Maybe the buyer and seller are the same entity ?
Using a fake transaction to drive up the perceived value of an item is a trick that has been used many times in art, collectibles, and even stocks.
hasn’t everyone heard already about the guy with a briefcase full of cash, and the banana?
Must be a slow news day.
I wonder if PCGS would slab that banana. It's the world's most valuable banana after all. You could then peal the sticker off another banana and add it to the slab and then you'd have yourself a real treasure.

There's all kinds of 7 figure art that I don't understand including a knot of string and even blank canvases.
The news on this auction mentions the winner gets a certificate of authenticity, instructions and a roll of duct tape. The actual banana is more of a prop. It was likened to a NFT ( a unique digital asset that represents ownership of something). The buyer is a crypto billionaire, and will be funded with the crypto he created.) As suggested, a marketing ploy to bring attention to his business. Still outrageous, but nevertheless this appears to be the real deal, not a fake transaction.
The buyer of this so called 'art' is probably the type that stands in front of it for half an hour, marvels at all its meaning and contemplates all of man's accomplishments and failures in one stupid banana stuck on the wall with duct tape.
You can't teach stupid.
The buyer eats the banana and replaces it with a new banana. One visitor viewing the artwork ate the banana before. Asked why did he do it He said he was hungry. So the art gallery replaced it with a new banana. Absurd.

I shoulda been an artist. Some fools will buy anything.
You still can be, all you need is a roll of duck tape and some fresh fruit. However, bananas are passe, so I would go with an apple or grapefruit.

you can not fix stupid!!!!
DR. has no meds for it.
I bought this banana. I fed it to my pet monkey. It gave him diarrhea.
I think I made a haiku.
Not much to say. Silence is golden. Duct tape is silver.
My question remains the same. How can something made from nothing be worth anything ? Then again I think I solved the age old question of which came first: the chicken or the egg ? The Rooster.
Wasn’t the artist famous ? Maybe he was making the point someone famous can call anything art and someone ( stupid) will buy it. Sold his name.
This is what Wikipedia says which is bull 💩 because 6.2 million is not accessible to everyone.

This is what the buyer posted:
I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve bought the banana!!! @SpaceX @Sothebys I am Justin Sun, and I’m excited to share that I have successfully acquired Maurizio Cattelan’s iconic work, Comedian for $6.2 million. This is not just an artwork; it represents a cultural phenomenon… pic.twitter.com/lAj1RE6y0C— H.E. Justin Sun(@justinsuntron) November 21, 2024
I think this is a big factor. The art was the creation of all the discussions of what constitutes art. Only a successful artist (name) could generate this much discussion.
Bitcoin is generating similar questions - what is money? What is a coin or a token? What has value beyond its utility?
If you could have bought $1000 in bitcoin in 2011 and now it’s worth like a billion dollars am I the only one that feels like I missed that boat. People are still buying thinking it will be them and if I had a billion dollars I would gamble it on bit coin now. I’m old maybe my brain is too old and in 100 years from now people will be thinking if only I was around in 2024 to buy bitcoin. What happens if you lose the thumb drive with your account and money on it. That’s how it works, right ?
That's my thought for the thread on "If you knew then, what you know now about coin collecting…" ... I would have collected bitcoins and use the proceeds to buy physical coins.
Better hope he varnished that banana or else he's gonna have a stinky wall hanging shortly
RIP Mom- 1932-2012
I was wondering about that. Bananas turn black within a week when I buy them.

Pay attention, people! This lunatic already ate it:
Apparently, the banana had already been replaced a couple of times in the past, as it obviously would rot on the canvas.
So again, how is this art? How is it even original if you have to keep re-applying duct tape to fresh produce every week? And is it the same piece now the artist's work has been replaced?
The whole thing is insane

It came with instructions (on how to buy a banana and place it on the wall), and a roll of duct tape.
