This coin is a 1959-D with an altered date.

The tail of the 9 has been removed either intentionally or by damage.
In either case it is now just a damaged 1959 nickel.

  • Thank you

    Definitely altered.
Many of the 1959 D coins were altered to try and pass them off for the 1950 D coins.
The 50D coins were highly sort after back in the day.

    I agree on a 1959 date.
    Try this,
    cut the first nine out,
    fade back the cut out,
and lay it in the space given, exposing your question too be on point,
    and call it research.
    I'd still save it.
