I have a wish, an earnest request, and a heartfelt suggestion for the forum...

I enjoy the True View Images of your coins but they never show the grade. I think that would detract from the image so I'm glad PCGS didn't do it.

So. I promise to be a better man if members would put the grade of the coin in their post - they already know it. I do understand that I can look up the image by the number but pretty please... I hope others agree and even if a few posters started doing it for us, IMO it would make the form better for all of us. THANKS!!!!

    Great suggestion.

That’s one of the reasons I present mine like this, the other reason is so that (for my slabbed coins that don’t have Trueviews) my coin photos match the look of the Trueviews. Two of these coins uses my own images, the other 2 are Trueviews

Thanks for how you post and I'm sorry to bring it up. I guess I'm the old, blind man around here! I'm always looking at the coin not the words in the image.

This has always annoyed me, as well. I never look them up.

Most of us can look at the coin and also read the words in the image. Try it. I promise you that it's not difficult. ;)

Ah, we have a true numismatist here. Not me. When I see any collectable, I want to know what it is worth. That info is stored away for the future. You can never know what you may come across for yourself. For example. I've turned a nice profit on jewelry that came into a coin shop because I ask questions about things including their worth. I'll bet I would even know if a vintage Ferrari was way undervalued too.

I find people who instantly ask me what a coin is worth somewhat insulting because I'd rather they were interested in the coin itself. I don't collect coins because I'm amassing wealth - there is so much more to the hobby.

Truer words have never been spoken. Recently found in a town where coal was mined long ago. What are these two pieces worth?

Nope. I want my photos to be about the coin: not the grade, sticker, plastic, background color, etc. That doesn't mean I won't add that to a post when I want to, but I won't commit to doing so.

I believe the majority of people reading the posts where coin photos are posted WANT to know the grade of the coin shown. Yes, some don’t want to know, and that’s ok, but based on past identical posts like this one, I sense those people are in the minority.

Yes, with a True View a reader can take the time to look it up, but most readers that would like to know the grade of the coin in the photo won’t make the effort to look it up. That’s the premise of the request in this post, and others like it.

My coin photographer uses the following layout for my coins, and when I have that type of photo, that’s what I choose to show. When all I have is a True View, I show that and state the grade, due to past requests like this one.

Thank you. My photographer actually provides me with four layouts for each coin. In addition to the layout I show above, he also provides a paired “Slab Shot”, a large obverse photo, and a large reverse photo. What I really appreciate is his ability to accurately capture a coins luster in these two-dimensional photos.

My coins are almost all circulated coins and should be easy to grade for other collectors. I will try to add grades in the future, though.

I don't even care about the grades for my circulated commemoratives except that they must be circulated. My pink Connecticut with lots of rub on the wing failed.

I can understand this, and I agree wanting to know the value (via an assigned TPG grade) qualifies as an "earnest request".
But in my view it does not equate to a "heartfelt suggestion".

I love your photos Al... the only thing that would make them better is if you'd offer the occasional capped bust half dime! But your photo here brings up a question I resolved differently some time ago. Specifically: do you show the reverse in rotation, or do you correct it? In this case, you did the former. And I used to do that. It's easy to do on a slabbed coin - just orient the slab squarely as you capture the two images. But although it addresses the rotation question - which is a valid pickup point for some marriages - it makes it harder to look at the reverse, IMHO. Not saying one's right or one's wrong... just pondering it...

I get “both” sides. Sometimes I’ll post the grade, sometimes not. Other times I’ll just add a slab shot with the tv.
If one takes the time (& effort) to post a pic for viewers to enjoy, the viewer should take the time (& effort) to look the coin up. Or not. JMO…..

I enjoy seeing the coin pics but seeing the grade assigned by a top tier grading service can also be educational. The more graded coins that you see, the better your coin grading skills become. My biggest pet peeve is many times the obverse of the coin or slab is shown but a reverse pic isn't shown.

I will always post the grade if my pictures do not show what grade it is.
For those who do not, I take the time to look it up especially if it is a Kennedy. Lol

I really appreciate the grade being added. I don’t get to see many coins in person and certainly don’t know enough about every series to give good guesses from images on a lot of stuff.
For me , it’s not even about the dollar value. It’s learning what to look for in photos and knowing what I’m looking at.

    WAYNEAS,
    I'm liking your style...
I'll chase a good Kennedy when I see one myself!
This one, a fixer-upper in a way this past summer, had the spotting going on even more so than what we see here. As well as some dullness plaguing it. A well-worth-it $500 PCGS Restoration & holder recently really popped it!
A $5300 GC deal, turned into a potential $12-16,000 keeper Kennedy...
    Love this coin!....

Agree. I also enjoy looking at the coin but it's educational to see how my "in my head" grade compares to the grade assigned by the grading service.

Some people think that wanting to know the grade equates with only thinking about what it's worth? :#

If someone posts a slabbed coin then they also cared about the grade. When someone posts a TV it's often because they are proud or perhaps even boasting about the grade. Why not share it.

It was suggested that if someone took the time to post photos of a coin then others should take the time to look up the grade. We've already taken the time to read the thread - isn't that enough? It's not like we can copy-and-paste the cert number into a search function. One person could provide the grade on their coin and save every reader the trouble. Why not do that as a gesture to fellow forum members who took the time to open the thread in the first place?
