The state of Kansas stamped in the obverse. just curious if a person did it or if it was manufactured like that.

    The stamp was added after the coin left the mint.

    It is called a counterstamp, there are hundreds of different ones out there.
    Yours is part of the series of the 50 states.

    Yup, someone counter stamped it with a Kansas stamp. I’m sure someone has tried to collect all the counter stamps from the 50 states. I don’t know that I’ve seen them often enough to know if that even possible.

    They are/were usually sold in complete sets.
