Going through a bunch of my stashed away numismatic items/bags of worn and oddball coins — and I swear I can’t recall where I picked this up? … At first quick glance and with a good feeling weight in-hand, it doesn’t immediately set off faker alarms 🚨 …. someone put some effort into this ‘coin’ at least. Did a forumite friend give me this years back? I really don’t remember. Anyways, fun stuff. 😆

Ah yes. The rare 1871-S pattern.

When I was in Vietnam, I picked up an 1875 CC Trade Dollar. Given where I got it, I thought it was counterfeit, but it looked very good. It fooled most dealers. The giveaway was the metal content. It didn't have the right ping when dropped on the ground. It would probably be in a TPG holder in XF 40 today if the metal content was correct.

@Elcontador Yeah this ‘Trade’ definitely doesn’t have the ‘ping’ either.
Ahhhh... the ol' Date In Italics variety...

Very "cast" looking.

I don't have an 1871 trade dollar, but how about 1872?
