    Might be a pretty short book since there are only a few proof coins in the set. Maybe add other proof coins in the era???

    Including the 1927 and 36 and 37, also going back and do a complete history on the beginning of the series, not sure if I will find many diagnostics, but looking forward to finding out

    I can provide you with die diagnostics for the dies that struck the 1937 Cameo nickels.

    What Proof nickel was issued in 1927? The last Matte Proof was issued in 1916, and series didn’t resume until 1936.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    Allegedly

    There is a few 27 that pcgs have designated SP but with the variance of hammered BSs out to include surfaces, I am not sure how one gets there without documentation.

    They are PCGS certified and called specimen coins. They have satin proof surfaces, unbelievable squared rims, and full complete strikes. They are shown on PCGS CoinFacts, compare them to the top graded 1927 MS coins, so much better in strike. It is believed that they came from the 1962 retired John Sinnock estate sale, where there were 10 Buffalo nickels in a lot, including 3 from 1927. Sinncok was known to have created several commemorative proofs for his collection. At least one of the 1927 Buffalo nickels proofs sold in a Heritage auction for $45K.
    I agree that there should be documentation, but IMO in this case the actual coins speak for themselves.

    @kevinj

    Here's a Matte I shot a while back. I only took one image of the edge so it's slightly out of focus but gets much better towards the bottom of the shot.

    At this point it seems unlikely. I no longer have the Matte in my possession.
