Ownership Odyssey: 1792 to current (FINISHED)!!!
After considering a thread that might allow everyone here to participate I’ve come up with the following idea for us all:
1) we start with the year 1792 as the first coin
2) you must either personally own or have owned the coin (no photos of coins in museums)
3) we end with “current” so every year the thread can live on
3) no one posts a new year until the year we are on is fulfilled
4) no going back in time if someone else beats you for the year that’s ok just grab another year as available. One coin per year.
Example:
The first coin is posted for 1792 (assuming a disme). The next coin posted will be a 1793, then 94 then 95 and so on.
The goal is to get from 1792 to 2024 in less than 10 days. Everyone gets to participate since this covers older coins and moderns.
Now, who has a 1792?
Comments
As a hopefully-helpful reminder to make it somewhat easier to get started, a coin from 1792 could be a Disme, Half Disme or (Birch) cent. Not that I expect a large crowd, fighting to see who can post their example first.😉
Mark Feld* of Heritage Auctions*Unless otherwise noted, my posts here represent my personal opinions.
I definitely laughed at the “Not that I expect a large crowd fighting to see who can post theirs first.” I know someone has to have one here on the boards.
Johnny - this thread might get off to a slow start!

What about the 1787 Fugio Cent?
🤔 He's got a point there.

what about stopping in 1933?
WTF. Who's family owned this coin and passed it down un touched and un wiped?
At a certain point the preservation of such coins boggles my mind.
Glad you like it! Ex- Dr. J. Hewitt Judd Collection. Dr. Judd reportedly traced ownership of this coin to David Rittenhouse, the first Director of the U.S. Mint. Only two examples graded higher, MS-68 and SP-67. (This coin is MS66 CAC)
Damn Don! @Floridafacelifter
Brother, can you spare a (Half) Dim(s)e?!!
“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”

Was looking for a linear approach. 92 seemed like the best starting point.
One of the greatest coins I’ve ever seen @Floridfacelifter & an awesome piece of history!
Plus, the thread has been officially started!

Ok we have 1792 in the books. I know the 1790s are going to be tough which is why there’s no rule you can’t go back to back to back. Just trying to get the whole forum from 1792 all the way to 2024 if we can
Any 1793’s out there?
We have a forum member who owns a 1933 so no reason to stop. This is a party for everyone.
Wait when you reach 1871, 1877, 1881, 1923, 1925, and 1964. I may not have the best coins, but I do want to post some after someone posts a better one, but before we go onto to the next date, if you get what I mean.

I look forward to seeing what year we get to before this falls off the rails. In the previous attempts similar to this the thread has gone through the initial barriers (and turned into a "throw pretty much whatever you want up") relatively quickly.

Embarrassing to post this after the previous coin:
No way!!
What a privilege to own.

I call dibs on 1922!
Well, only 85 more coins and I can jump in!
Now we are talking - my favorite Early quarter of all time. But she won't marry me? I love her!
Its a 1797 Dime with a terminal die state.
Anyone with a 1798?
Good call! And it didn’t take long - a second 1797 was posted LOL!

No big deal right. We are making great progress.
Calling 1801?
@HillbillyCollector
Love that 1799! Excellent way to close out the 1700s.
1801 is a tough date. I was waiting for 1802 but might as well throw 1801 up here:
