Does PCGS simply re-issue Trueviews on similar graded coins?

braddickbraddick Posts: 23,946 ✭✭✭✭✭

I purchased this coin earlier today:

I went to save. the Trueview and noticed it didn't have the typical information PCGS provides for Trueviews on it:

I went back to ebay and checked for similar coins such as this one:

I went to download its Trueview and my computer stated/asked if I wanted to. replace the photo I had already saved (the Trueview above.)

Here is the second coin's Trueview:

I suppose "all MS70 coins" within a type kind of look the same- so why bother photographing each one, yet if it is a service
that is paid for by the submitter, shouldn't each photo be of each individual coin?

Or is sending a likeness/photo good enough?

In even asking the question, you sound more forgiving than I’d be about that. Unless otherwise disclosed in advance and on the Trueview, itself, if it’s a different coin it should have a different/unique picture.

    I agree Mark.
If a submitter knew in advance that a Trueview purchased would be identical to any and all previous Trueviews for the coin type/grade, why bother? Simply copy the Trueview already taken and save the additional fee of The gold label/Trueview cost.

This sort of answers your own question, using a stock TV (if that is what is happening) for multiple coins is a big savings and at the same time a big win for the bottom line. It also helps with solving the complaints over poor TV quality, assuming the stock photo is of decent quality. But it is rather shady and very poor customer service, (if that is what is happening) seems that there have been other reports about problems with customer service recently too.

Interesting. A couple observations that might not help any. :)
Neither of those cert numbers has any information (photos) on the Trueview page. They come up error 404.

    https://www.pcgs.com/trueview/87428534

When I have seen cert verification pages with a TV but no TV on the Trueview page, I have wondered (but don't know) if it was due to the TV not being paid for and one that pcgs just took for another reason.

Also notice that the Cert verification page TV for the above does not have the typical banner information (is more like the white back ground TV).

For this example I also don't know since it is in a modern (NFC) gold shield holder that I believe should have included a TV but apparently doesn't.
No clue on the same file being used/linked on two different cert numbers.
