1964 mint set or proof set?

I have a set of 1964 P coins in a whitman holder. How do I tell if they are proof or part of a mint set?

Proof coins will have a mirror finish on the fields, mint set coins will have a business strike finish. ;)

  • So mine are probably mint state. I read many posts about 1964 proofs not being too mirror like. I bought this a long time ago, just because they have silver in them, not sure why someone would pkg half of the mint set. I will try to post pictuures, but I am going to a local show next week, possibly someone there will be able to help, too.

The other strong possibility is that they are just uncirculated business strikes (not from a proof or mint set).

For many years the 1964 set with the first year of issue JFK half dollar was a popular collectable.

It would help if you posted photos of these 1=cents (Obverse & reverse0 and you get better comments. If you can't post photos yet, post when you can.
