Registry Awards Count

I was checking out my #1 Registry sets (21 total) and my curiosity was piqued when I noticed that I had a lot of registry awards.
My count was 38 of the "Best of Registry" awards (blue) with the earliest award being in 2020.
I know that this is a very small amount compared to others who have been doing registry sets a lot longer, so I say
let us know how many awards you have won, in what category and the year of your first award in that category.
This should be fun for all of us.
Thanks
Wayne

Have never done a registry, but applaud those with the patience to assemble nice sets.

I have won 10 times ATS. First was in 2010.

I don't compete, too seriously over here, b/c the stuff that I collect is sooo rare that I can't afford to limit myself to just one type of plastic.

Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Seems like @alaura22 has been around awhile. He got his first registry award in 2002.
    Nice going Mike.
    Anybody here get one earlier?

I have NEVER received an award. I still have a few sets and to me days gone by I made many friends. Now that, to me is more important! Case in point is those that have Mercury dime sets. What a great group, and some are still around. We also had our own T-shirts. Barry you are a great person, GO Army beat Navy.(LOL)

My first award was in 2007. I took a quick glance at my registry history and see I have had 203 different registry sets over the years. I retired more than 100 of them that were top sets several years ago, so that others would have an opportunity for some blue banners, even though I still had the coins. Many of those were just annual proof or mint sets, or subsets of modern commemoratives.

PCGS did not send out any pins to many winners for the 2023 awards and has still not published the 2024 awards. They did away with plaques several years before that. I have become somewhat apathetic about the registry lately, as many set composition errors that I find and point out to fix in the set database are ignored, and new modern set requests go unanswered.

I have become disillusioned with this lack of support of the registry, and the US Mint's new offerings and gold pricing grid.

As a result, I just retired my 100% complete modern gold set which had all 582 different US Mint modern gold coins or medals minted since 1980. I will be retiring several more top modern sets which will allow others to move up in rankings if they want to participate.

Many of us here feel your pain.
It seems that most of our concerns land on deaf ears.

I think that the registry is underestimating on how much set owners care about their sets being accurate and the worth of being recognized for their accomplishments.

Those pin awards that replaced the plaques, still have tremendous value to many of us.
How hard is it to address this issue of getting them mailed out?

If the registry can't fix the easy ones, then what becomes of the more involved ones?
I hope that it gives you some resolve that you are not alone in your feelings.

Congrats! Always good to get that first one! But if 2023 is any indication, you’re going to be waiting a long time!

To me, it’s a simple recognition of having put together a number 1 ranked set. No perks or bragging rights but I do get a great feeling in seeing it next to my name and set.

I've never had a #1 set and never will. Lol! I'll never be rich enough to do so. I'm 10 years from retirement and need to stop blowing money like I'm 20 years old. I'll probably only have a single set (or perhaps a second one someday), but I'll definitely not be spending the money to assemble more.

My only set is an XF45 Carson City Morgan set. Not having any fondness for MS or AU coins precludes me from scoring higher. I'm currently at #2 in the Everyman ranking, and will never be higher.

I started out wanting VF35-AU50, then tightened it up to XF40-AU50, then finally decided on XF45 only. The constant upgrading has cost me thousands more than I would have spent if I'd have simply bought XF45 coins to begin with.

That said, those who have #1 sets have accomplishments to be proud of, and I commend them.

Have you given any thought to modern coin sets?
They are not costly in putting together.
I suggest you might start with something like the 2024 proof set In proof 70.
Since this set has not been added by Pcgs yet, you have a chance to have a top five ATF SET when they do.

Not to offend anyone, but I have no interest in modern coins whatsoever. I was born in 1968, so anything minted during my life just doesn't seem fascinating to me. I'd say that my interests lie in pre-1945 coins.

    No ill feelings here.
Many of our forum members share your feelings.
I do center my sets on Kennedys and enjoy competeting against the big boys.

Have you consider any of the Everyman sets? Either the regular set with a top grade of AU 58+ OR the mint sets with a top grade of MS-64. These are great sets for the not so wealthy.
There are some sets that you can build over time and not break the bank. I currently have 12 Everyman Mint sets and I still can afford to eat.
Just look at some of them and you will be surprised, join in on the fun.

While going back over my awards, I found that one of my sets had won an award in 2019 so this would my earliest award year.

I prefer circulated coins, so the mint state sets are definitely out of the question. Lol! I dont even want AU58's, and I don't see myself topping any sets without them. You'd definitely have to be wealthy to do a MS set of Carson City Morgans. An 1889-CC alone in MS60 is $30K.

If I ever do another set, it'll most likely be a $1 type set, and probably VG or under. A flowing hair in even VG is going to be some money. Lol!

@M4Madness There are also the “low ball” sets, only I’m not quite sure how the points/ranking works for them

That will give me some time to work on the second #1 spot i have my eye on. There are like 250 examples of the 2016 coin i need the 2020 one will be harder it only has like 3 and collectors already have them

I do not have any sets in the PCGS registry that I care about or are serious about, the whole PCGS only exclusive thing is a major turn-off for me. Like another member I do have some registry awards ATS and now I am focusing on the CACG registry going forward as it is the most inclusive (and responsive) registry currently.
