New web page for Coast to Coast coins

One of my great joys in life for years has been going thru the list of saved web pages I have for coin dealers.
I try to make the rounds once if not twice a day. David Lawrence, David Khan, Northeast Numismatics among others. until recently Coast to Coast had one of the easiest sites to use.
Click on coin and a list of every denomination appeared. click on one and every type of the denomination would appear. Click on one and you got a first date to last list of all coins available.
Somebody obviously decided this extremely easy and fast way to find coins available must be destroyed.
There is now a search engine. Type say "Seated Dime" it says no results. "Seated" in general only kicks off a montage of 5 or 6 coins in slabs at a time. Denomination does not matter. As far as I can tell you go thru a random mix of coins beginning with the absolute most expensive. i presume at some point you could find coins under $50,000 but i don't have that much patience.
There is still a coin box for a drop down list but it doesn't contain ANY Seated coins and does not even have dimes or quarters as an option. No doubt the genius who came up with this will get a ferrarri and a beach house. after all, effort must be rewarded! James

Thanks for sharing @Bikergeek —the fact that they didn’t offer a simple apology is reason enough to avoid dealing with them, IMO. Not to mention their awful photographs.

I bought a coin from them on eBay once and they spammed me with catalogs in the mail until I complained. I never signed up for them, and I generally avoid conspicuous coin-related mailings for security reasons.

Nothing is as expensive as free money.

@P0CKETCHANGE you know, when I saw they had revamped their site, I got hopeful about the photos improving - but no such luck. I'm thinking the mailing glitch was a one-time thing that is unlikely to happen again. I've done similar goofs in my personal and work correspondence in the past. But I'll say, they haven't brought me any closer to the fold than I was before, so, maybe that opportunity was lost to them. (Sadly, I don't think they care!)

I agree - I minimize any kind of catalogs or mailings. My postman sees things in plain wrappers and probably thinks I'm buying adult magazines - when it's really just the PCGS Rare Coin Market Report! LOL!

Agree with @POCKETCHANGE: their photos are borderline horrific & their CS not so great either. I’ve bought from them before - maybe a half dozen transactions. No need to bother anymore, JMO.
Edited to add: as others have indicated - the site is now more difficult to navigate; just checked it out.

I don't understand the issue. I don't care for the search but just scroll down and there is an easy drop down menu.

And OP must misunderstand the drop down because everything is there. This is user error, not poor website design.

I share that habit with you, @seatedlib3991! I call it "running the jewels." :-) I've observed that C2C's new system is a little wonky. In fact, they sent me a "NEWPS" email on Tuesday as per my subscription

I love emails alerting me of “new purchases”. I wish they ALL HAD THAT FEATURE! Real time saver. I like their new format. Some websites are more difficult to manage and detailed pictures run the complete spectrum from very good to just plain AWFUL! Some websites don’t provide any pics and want you to request them. Some of my requests have never been answered (Victoria Coins and Golden Eagle).

I routinely peruse about 15 dealer websites (wish I had more) and various auctions around 5 days a week, a few everyday. Not much inventory turnover, sadly. It’s amazing how long over-priced coins stay listed.

Can’t wait for our Louisville Coin Show October 10-12!

I liked the old site. I do not like the new site. New and improved seldom is.

doesn't happen on my page but then I suck at computer anyway.

  • It looks nicer and I appreciate the new navigation, but the old site had additional filters (that were hardly optimal but better than nothing).

Search for "seated liberty dime" does give results. Looks like it's matching the entire (quoted) string, not each word separately.

From my cell phone I just typed in CAC in the search box, and got no results. Regardless if I did it right or wrong, the end result did not lend to me wanting to go back.

Yep. If I type 1889-CC Morgan I get a drop down with a grid of 12 coins but if I hit return - No results. It's unclear to me if those are the only 89-CC Morgans they have. It's almost as if they don't test or use their own website. What a fail.

If you go through the menu down to Morgan Dollars, you get 51 pages of results to scroll through. No way to jump to the middle to see 1889's. No thanks, I have better things to do.

I can't tell, it doesn't seem like their pictures are any better. If I remember right once I asked them to send me better pictures and they refused. I'm pretty sure it was them.

So while I recognize the disadvantages of buying from this firm, I do occasionally buy coins that they offer on the specific coins I’m hunting for, in the grades I want, that also have the type of eye appeal I like (maybe two coins or so per year).

As such, I eagerly look forward to their M- F emails of NEWPS that arrive at roughly 5:30 pm or so, and I look at each email as soon as I can. You snooze, you lose. When that new email version came earlier this week, what a shock and disappointment:

    1. I too saw the first one clearly gave away our email addresses to everyone in the world that had a need to know people who buy rare coins. I too sent an email letting them know this is NOT good. No reply, but that’s no surprise.
    2. That first one, and I believe the second one, were completely out of denomination order. At least they fixed that too. How they can allow something of poor quality to go out is beyond me!
    3. For my collecting needs, coins offered that have CAC stickers were easily and QUICKLY visually identified in the prior version by having the green CAC sticker by each of those coins. As such, I was able to complete my browse of that daily email in less than 10 seconds. Now, it takes a LOT longer, since I have to look at each newp to see if at the end of each listing it shows the letters “CAC”.

    What a downgrade!!!

Agree the search feature is not very “smart” and the pics not detailed. Hopefully they work out the kinks.

This is something akin to the dealers who throw out coins at random in the cases. I usally go to a show with a list. It's easy to miss something if the coins are all over the place in the case.

I guess then theory is that you will make an impulse purchase if you are forced to wade through the confusion. With me, that's not the case. I'm far more likely to miss something than say, " Hey that's cool. Maybe I'll buy it even though I didn't come here looking for it! :/

It's like a grocery store constantly changing the location of there products just so you have to go down every lane to find the product again,
it's on purpose so maybe you'll buy other things.
They have been doing this for years
I want to be able to go to the site, plug in my filters and do the search, anything that doesn't allow me to do that is a waste of my time

Sure, but if I received an unsolicited catalog from every eBay seller I’ve bought from, I’d be buried in them.

I would really like to know how @lermish got that drop down list. mine goes half cent, then bust dime then Washington quarter! If I click on any thing I just get the same mixed up list that does not have dimes or quarters. James
