Voucher Submission grades in - crack outs gone well
By July I had accumulated enough pieces to make my voucher submission, and grades dropped yesterday. Overall very positive. All were crack-outs, three upgraded and one stayed the same. I did not request TVs but they came anyway, guess that being part of regular service with a voucher submission.
The 1924 is the one coin that stayed at the same grade. I purchased it in a yellow ANACS holder as I felt it was under graded, and if anything felt the most confident in its upgrade potential. I posted the coin this summer as a GTG before it went to PCGS and just about everyone was in the 65/66 camp with some 67 guesses. Maybe for another day.
The 1919 SLQ was purchased CACG 64 and became PCGS65. I did pay-up for the coin, nearly 'average auction 65' as a CACG 64, as I had thrown in the towel trying to find the date PCGS graded with a touch of toning for my year set. Below is both the CACG and TV image of the same coin, with this TV being the least bad of the lot and bearing some resemblance to the actual coin.
The 1929-S was purchased NGC64 and became PCGS65. I thought it had a shot for a variety designation, as PCGS has attributed multiple die states as two feathers for this date, but it was not meant to be. Here is the TV as I did not have a 'before' image. Its not very representative, and fear this has become the new standard of TV, gauging by the images I am seeing in the marketplace now.
The 1919 was purchased NGC58 and became PCGS62. I feel the 62 is a market grade for eye appeal, with the slightest flatness on the buffalo's flank. There really is no technical detractor to take it to a true 62. Would have been great to pull a 58+ out if it instead, but I will be more than content adding this piece to the set as it more closely aligns with the overall look compared to the existing piece in the set.

Nice group. Way to cherry pick. You have a very good eye for the nice stuff.
Very nice! That 24 buff looks better than a 64 to me, and that standing liberty is amazing.
Great results with an eye appealing group of coins!
I appreciate seeing the CACG and PCGS photos side-by-side for the SLQ. Nice coins overall! I believe if you want the two feathers you have to select (and pay for) Variety Attribution.

Nice results, and good to see a few NGC coins upgrade at PCGS.
Great group of coins - glad it worked out.
NOT my area of expertise, but I agree with this.
It appears that PCGS recognizes the 2 Feather, FS-401 (i.e., PCGS #569443). If applicable, this attribution would have required an extra fee ($20) per the variety program.
Regardless, nice submission.
Edited to add:
I realize that the PCGS 'Price Guide' is just a reference, but here is what is says about the difference in value (i.e, base vs. FS-401).

Please feel free to ignore this inquiry if you deem it intrusive, but I am curious.
You shared that PCGS did not attribute the 2 feather 'die state/variety' on your 1929-S Buffalo Nickel.
Did you:
~ pay PCGS, through the variety program, to specifically evaluate the coin for the 2 feather variety? (Which means that PCGS examined your coin for the variety, and did not feel that it qualified for the 2 feather designation.)
~ or, did you fail to pay PCGS for the variety review? (Which means that PCGS did not specifically evaluate the coin for the 2 feather variety, and that attribution is still possible via a subsequent submission.)
@MetroD ,
I understand the inquiry. I am familiar with the attribution service. So yes, the boxes were checked on the form and I paid the fee.
I feel that the attribution service is not entirely consistent. I know there are ‘better’ dies than the one I own, with no trace of the feather present, whereas my piece has some feather left. I’m not terribly upset, but felt it was worth a roll of the dice .

Thanks for the response. I appreciate it.
Overall, excellent results.
Congrats on some great coins and nice upgrades. Regarding the 29-S, I've seen a lot of Buffalos attributed as the 2-feathers with similar feather remnants. Even though you requested and paid for variety attribution, they may just have overlooked or ignored it. It seems to happen more than occasionally.
