If I may ask an ANACS query (thank you, PCGS and CU!)

I have between 10-13 moderns that I will send out for encapsulation. These include some 1998 SMS Kennedys from the RFK/JFK sets, 1996 proof silver Eagles, a 1972 silver proof Ike in a GSA holder, and a number of 1996-W dimes in original mint packaging. I've researched my total cost on the PCGS, NGC, and ANACS web pages. Naturally, ANACS, with its ongoing show special of 14 clams per coin, is the most economical by a long shot. I'm hoping to get a minimum 67 on the dimes, 68 on the Kennedys, and 69 or 70 on the others. If I was sending in raw classic coins to be slabbed, I'd ship 'em to PCGS without a doubt.

So what do my new, experienced numismatist friends think? Again, TIA.

I didn't understand the Ike in the GSA holder..

In any case, you get what you pay for. ;)

I've used ANACS for some Daniel Carr stuff and I will do so again. The service was great.

But...in regard to the coins you mentioned, if you are trying to capture a coin's grade for eventual resale, ANACS might not be the best choice.

I'll be interested in others' responses.

I agree with @JBK although I would throw one into the mix. I like the CACG holder, their imaging is very good, and (so far at least) their market perfomance/sales prices seem to be strong.

I believe that the OP has accidentally mistaken the original plastic shell used for 1971-1974 40% silver Proof Ikes for the plastic shell used for GSA dollars, which is very similar.

There is a recent thread about the GSA dollars. Members recommended slabbing the GSA holder at NGC.

Yes, I agree. I've always assumed it's the same shell.

If the OP was thinking to get the whole case slabbed (if anacs does that for GSAs) I'm not sure that's going to work. Or do they offer a band around the case? If they do I don't know if they'd do that for all OGP.

  • I asked ANACS. They do keep it in the original holder with an identifying band.

^This, with CACG you get the market performance of NGC or PCGS with superior photo services and (IMO) a superior holder. Granted CACG is not as inexpensive as ANACS.
