Why eBay dealers drink prison hooch… I hope I get a lenient judge!
Buyer bought two things from me yesterday. After seeing what I can only imagine was a temporary/pending charge show up a few hours later, he sent me this one and only email. I hope I can get a drink while I’m locked away.
“ You have charged me for these two coins totaling $105. twice or a total of $210. I did not buy them together so you need to refund what you charged to date and once that has been done, you may charge for the individual price of each coin. I thought that we could do a lot of business together but if your poor management is not corrected immediately, this attorney will never buy anything from you again and you may not know it but if this is not corrected immediately I will file a complaint with eBay and prosecute you for fraud and theft. I am normally an excellent customer and I am very easy to get along with, but not when anyone steals from me. I guarantee you that you will enjoy a relationship with me very much if you do exactly what you are supposed to do but you will rue the day if this mess is not corrected immediately.”
Again, it was his first email…

You’ll probably be surprised to learn that I looked it up (because I have his name and address…) and this powerful attorney is… yup, disbarred.
His forum name is Bambino1
Manischewitz makes a decent pruno.
How did you defraud him...allegedly?
You have my sympathy. I get a nutty ebay buyer every once in a while. If you share their username I will put them on my blocked list.

So... I guess I'm trying to understand what his problem is. Was the total price $105 or $210? Did he want separate invoices for each rather than a combined invoice? Confused.

Wow........
It was $105, and he was charged once. Most likely his credit card is showing a pending charge that will go away in a day or two, and separately the actual charge. So there’s no actual problem beyond how his credit card book keeps and displays things in real time. It’s much ado about nothing and something I have no control over anyway, or in his mind something between grand theft and attempted murder.

May I ask what the range on your Cessna is?
I always check my credit card bills for unauthorized charges. I had bought two new tires and the tire place ran the charge through twice. When I confronted them, they claimed human error and credited me back the amount of the second charge. I've always wondered if it was intentional and they were hoping that I wouldn't catch it.

Did you ask how he plans on suing you when he's been disbarred?

I suggest that you cancel the transaction, refund his money, and block him (disbar him) from any future transactions or communications. You may want to also alert eBay that this buyer tried to scam you just to CYA.

I wouldn't advise someone to make an allegation they don't believe to be true, just to CYA.

I would think you could screenshot what the buyer paid and send that in an email to him with a comforting message.

Not when someone comes at you like that, unprovoked, on the first message. Any further contact with that person is risky, much less actually shipping them merchandise. I wouldn’t want them to have my name and mailing address from the postal label, either.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
whew, i thought nicky kneecaps was giving out loans again
We celebrated one of our daughter’s birthday over the weekend at a local Mexican restaurant and they charged me for two Coronas instead of just the one I had! We attack the border at dawn!!!
Our group meets at a local casual bar/restaurant every Thursday. They offer numerous happy hour specials for food and beverages, that vary by day. We invariably get one of the newer servers who doesn’t apply the discounts, and then we need one of the assistant mgrs to rectify the bill. Not sure why it occurs since everything is entered in electronically, but it gives my wife something to do while I finish my beer.
Was that through eBay or do you have your own website now?
If eBay, tell him to sue eBay because they control the money now.
i know you're not going there, but it's probably illegal in his state to pretend to be a lawyer
I am an attorney and sometimes am saddened by others in the profession (but at times I am also impressed by others in the profession).
Hopefully you will not have a long term relationship (or any further relationship) with this customer.
It says ebay in the post.
I'd recommend either hitting the bottle or getting to an AA meeting.
I'd recomnend Blanton's Gold Edition. Highly enjoyable while you wait as it works out in your favor. Then block him from future transactions.
Good news update: I wrote him a very nice (much nicer than it needed to be) explanation and also offered to cancel the sale. He asked that one item of the two be canceled, but the only way to do that is to cancel everything, and since it was at his request, I’m fully covered as far as eBay is concerned that he requested and thus can’t leave feedback.
His reply was much more civil and he inquired about other coins I may have. I didn’t reply, and instead just made sure he’s blocked before he finds a way to buy anything else of mine. TBD if I’ll reply back at all, perhaps with a screenshot of the bar website reminding him that they, too, don’t think very highly of him, and I’m aware of that fact.
Also just enjoyed some Old Forester 1897, though the 1910 and 1920 are better. All surely better than anything you’d make in a prison cell toilet.
I think that is the way I would have proceeded. Though I might have just canceled the auction and refunded and blocked without sending the message beforehand. Any buyer that displays behavior like that.... is just not worth it, and will likely have more problems down the line.
Glad it worked out for you.
Agreed, except there’s a loophole that a buyer can leave feedback for a canceled transaction if they didn’t request it. By getting him to request it in the record, I’m protected.
Indeed it is. And the state bar has a convenient email address for reporting such things… 🤔 🤭 🫣
You never know if someone at the other end of a keyboard correspondence is inebriated, etc. or on drugs.
Agree. I know if I had had master plumbers license revoked in the day I would have devolved into an angry, over medicated, paranoid inebriate.

Deep inside enemy territory. Ran into some guy named Dobbs carrying bags of gold dust. He asked to see out badges!
@airplanenut - What is your Ebay ID? I am a frequent buyer and won't treat you that way! In fact, I pay for my wins immediately and have had no issues at all in recent memory.
Jkcoins… but if it’s fixed price, better prices here 😉
