Found this in a Loomis roll today. Has to be a magicians coin or something. Both sides are obverse design the only difference is one has a P mint mark and one has a D mint mark. Not possible to be an error. The weight is 5.3 oz. How and why
would someone make this?

The “P“ side was the original reverse
It was hollowed out and a cut down “P’ (corrected)
Obv. Was inserted you can see the seam just inside the rim.

when you drop it, it should make a thud sound rather than the traditional ping that a quarter makes.
Shake it in a glass and see if it separates. If so, it’s a magician’s coin. Usually we use a device called a ‘bang ring’ to separate trick coins that nest inside each other.
Thank you. I was perplexed when I found it in the roll. Will be a fun one to play heads or tails with
Weight is 5.3 oz?
I have one somewhere, haven't seen it in a while. I would imagine 5.3 oz would be right as some metal removal would occur. Have no way of estimating how much.

I think the "D" side was the hollowed out one.

I am sure a previous owner is upset they lost that one.

Kennedys are my quest...
i have a half dollar i "discovered" when the coin star repeatedly rejected it, i looked at it closer and noticed it had the dual date obverse but the traditional eagle reverse. at first i thought it was counterfeit, then realized it was a magician piece. gets the blood churning for a minute or two
Just to clarify, there are magician's coins, which are usually meant to open and the insert flipped over to reveal a different coin.
Then there are novelty two-headed or two-tailed coins. They don't open.
Thank you all for your kind comments. I will make sure to preface the question in my subject line. Thank you also for correcting my oz vs grams. I have much to learn.
I think Amazon sells them - fun find!
