Plus grades in PCGS cert lookup

Searched for this and couldn't find anything.

Received a coin with a plus ➕ grade, but the PCGS lookup just shows the numeric value with no plus symbol.

Is this normal? NGC shows the ➕

Just looked at three of mine and all of them showed the + along with numeric grade.

As far as I know, the cert verification should include any applicable "+". It is, after all, part of the grade.

    Example (NOT my coin):

Thanks. I wonder what the best course of action is then. The coin and slab look otherwise legit, but I'm no expert.

Is the plus sign within the cert # line on the front of the holder? See phot above.

It would be interesting to see what grade is assigned if you place it into a registry set.

Yes it is. Although I've obscured the cert number here, anyone who's obsessive can scan the code. I bought it from what seems to be a reputable dealer and I've no desire to expose them for what is surely an accidental oversight, and likely PCGS's not the dealer's. I may just return the coin, but I guess I'll have to pay shipping.

At this link below it states:

Data entry errors occasionally may occur causing the information on the coin holder to differ from the PCGS database. If the information listed above appears to be incorrect, please contact PCGS Customer Service.

The above 'PCSG Customer Service' is a link that goes to the page below. Also has mail address.
Could probable also use the info@pcgs.com to send an email.

If you like the coin, you might want to check with PCGS before returning it. It could just be a data entry mistake.

The first thing PCGS will probably ask for is 'full/clear' holder images, front and back.

You may also want to post these images here, sans cert number, for feedback. Some of the members here are really good at detecting anomalies.

Pcgs first started issuing +s in 2010 and that holder stopped being used in 2011 so it was still pretty new. Probably just a data entry error

+1, no reason to return the coin if you like it, its a simple fix.

Well, I emailed PCGS twice ( with photos) and got only the automated replies. Left my number for a callback which never came. Advice welcome.

The dealer who sold me the coin probably won't be happy with the delay if I have to return it, but then they didn't respond to messages either.

For me, the PCGS turnaround time on e-mail inquiries has not been fast. To be fair, they do respond. But, in my experience, calling has yielded more immediate results.

Given that you want an expidited resolution, I suggest that you keep trying to get PCGS on the phone. If you are able, it is best to call when they first open for the day (i.e., M-F, 7:00 AM PT).

When you get a CS rep on the line, if they do not offer, ask them to send you an e-mail to open a ticket. You can then reply, while you are still on the line, with front and back images of the holder, as well as a screenshot of the cert verification. The idea is for PCGS to confirm that they have everything needed for their investigation before the call disconnects, and for you to have a specific 'point of contact' for any required follow-up.

I dont really understand what the issue is? The holder says 64+, the coin number too. If I were you, I'd test it out in the registry to see what it shows there. If that also shows 64+, then I'm not sure how you're adversely affected by it. When you go to sell the coin, the buyer will see that the coin is obviously a 64+. Even if they didn't, I dont think it would make a huge difference on an 81-s Morgan, especially if it's a buyer who isnt dependent on the TPG opinion.

Sounds like a mechanical error to me.

I once bought two coins from eBay which just had the numerical grade on the holder but when I looked up their cert #’s they both had plusses. Score!! So I contacted PCGS customer service, explained the situation and then received mailing labels as they considered them a mechanical error. Both coins were sent in and returned with plusses on the holders.

Call PCGS and explain the situation. I’d bet it was a mechanical error and that they will take care of it for you for free.

    Let us know.
