an unusual dime

Hi, I have a 1969 D dime that has no ridges on the sides and instead has a groove, like two halves have been joined together. It also doesn't seem to have a copper layer. I've attached pics. Any ideas?

Definitely PMD. Looks like a High School shop project. Trying to put a small grove on a round metal object.

Probably been dipped in acid which would have dissolved the softer copper before the nickel.
