The Producers -1967 - Zero was terrific in this role- great film
And sadly Mel Brooks might be one of the few directors whereby their first film was their best.
Seems Olson Welles wins for Citizen Kane for the greatest accomplishment in a first film in a directorial debut is the clear winner. A reasonable choice would be John Huston’s debut as a director for the Maltese Falcon (WarnerBros 1941
For those you that tuned in late, Boosibri is one of the best we have here that contributes.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Some such as yourself would argue Blazing Saddles (1973) was his best. In the matter of taste, there is no dispute… even though some… such as myself may not agree. And in all fairness, Blazing Saddles is a great film… and in its own league in that there simply is not much to compare it to… other than other Mel Brooks films.

There are two other Billy Wilder films… Some Like it Hot (1959) and One, Two Three (1961) which where earlier but equally significant in terms of comedy at levels rarely captured on film. I suspect most have seen Some Like It Hot in contrast to One Two Three which, in my opinion, is one of the most underrated and under appreciated comedy in motion picture history. If you have not seen this film… add it to your list.

Thoughts of Zero Mostel.
this should be a poll so we can better determine if it is wrong and assign a number for degree of wrongness
I had to open the window and let some of the wrong out.
Bochi used to police that stuff. Don't see him around much, anymore.
It happens to the best of us. The OP made a mistake big deal.

I love The Producers...but luckily Mel didn't fall into this camp as Blazing Saddles is his best film.

Enjoying the comments, but Mostel was in this on topic film. Not his best...but relevant to the subject.
