I just got around to shooting a few photos...
Both the Half and Cent have some nice color to them.

It's a shame they packaged the early sets so poorly. I have silver proof sets from 1956-2024. I frankly am surprised that there is little collector interest since they haven't any value much over spot. So I have told. Still I enjoy owning them.

They look very nice given all the years spent in the original packaging. Even the original staple isn't near as grotty looking as most that come to light after decades of storage in conditions other than ideal.

Now listen boy, I'm tryin' to teach you sumthin' . . . . that ain't an optical illusion, it only looks like an optical illusion.

My mind reader refuses to charge me....

The 1954 sets came in cellophane and plastic sleeves. The sets packaged in cellophane survived better.

Sorry, but this is one of the 1954 sets in the plastic, and it's not to my taste, but that's just me.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

The cellophane is in the box it came with but it is brittle and cracked. My assumption is, someone re-slipped these into better, newer plastic.

    Interesting proof set.

The three silver coins look like they have developed the type of toning that results from storage in the polybag sleeves, namely blue and purple. This type of toning usually is negative; and if one tries to remove the toning with a dip the results are never good. The blue and purple toning is removed, leaving an ugly brown color on the coins that can not be removed.

As for the nickel and cent, they both look like they could be very attractive coins, possibly warranting a Cameo designation of the reverses look like the obverses.

It would be interesting to see each of the five coins in hand out of the polybag sleeves.

Free those puppies from the plastic so we can appreciate their condition!
