Banned from US Mint?

I haven’t been buying any coins on the US mint website now for well over a year. I placed a few orders for some of the hotter coins- I even had a deal with Type 2 on the last attempt. Unfortunately, my orders kept getting cancelled! I thought it was because the coins were sold out even though I got my order in quickly. But, that was not the case.

A while back, the US Mint had a coin sent and it was never delivered. I disputed it through them and with my credit card company. Well, I got the charges reversed twice and never knew about it. I called the mint when my orders kept getting cancelled and they said no you owe us this money. I’m like ok I understand now let me pay it back. Their response was no, its been too long so its a collections agency. They gave me the number. I called there and they said no we have no record of you. So, as is typical with the government I’m in some kind of limbo that I cannot leave. Has this happened to anyone before??

I’ve got a credit cad in my GFs name so I created an account with her name, credit card number but my address. I wonder if that will be successful??

    You try calling them?

  • I sure did! No one ever let me know and when you call to talk to someone you have to schedule it - they give you like a week window when someone could call you from Dallas. Then the collections is part of the us treasury dept. that’s useless too. So bizarre.

Purchase limits are household, so let us know if bans are too...

Just open a new account in your GF name, or father, brother, whoever

If it went to collections as they say surely you would have gotten some type of notification from a collections agency?

    Many happy BST transactions
  • Nothing! I kept telling them that. I never knew. They’re like we sent you something. Omg. I’ll let everyone know if I can actually order something. I was interested in the new palladium coin coming up but it’s more than the spot price of palladium. That’s crazy.

  • I meant to say twice the spot price. Well more than $100 twice spot.

I can't believe you never got a letter or email about this. Have you changed addresses? Emails?

The collections process is very regimented, as there are legal ramifications.

You never knew you were refunded twice? :#

I think your GF name/address will work as long as last name different than yours. People are mobile and an address ban would seem extreme.

Count your blessings. Next is the “no fly” list. :joy:

  • It has to have hit your credit report by now....

I certainly would not be surprised it that could be a repercussion of the mess. Once such info gets into the computers of the gov bureaucracy... no telling what other areas and benefits might be affected.

  • My credit score is 832. Nothing on my credit report for over a year and no way for me to pay it. It’s hard to get excited about anything to buy - the prices are multiples over spot and no household limits. I have not filed a tax return where I get a refund yet but I would wager there’ may be a tax intercept. Maybe that will cure it.

I'm trying to make sense from your above statement. You don't file a tax return when you are do a refund?

I interpret it to mean that every tax return they filed resulted in payment due the government. YMMV.

There are certain debts that are recoverable if you have a tax refund due. No idea if the mint is part of that.

Maybe you don't actually owe them any money.

I don't know the answer but I'm just throwing it out there...

I wonder if some of the confusion has to do with US Mint vs Fulfillment Center. I'm not sure who actually charges the card.

I miss flipping the coins but those opportunities are so limited now. My cpa filed an extension for 2023 and he just submitted my taxes today. I’m getting a nice refund so I’ll guess I’ll see how that turns out. I suspect I’ll be stuck in limbo tho and get it all back.

I worked for the VA for 2 years and had a nice amount of money put away in my TSP. I tried to roll it over and I can’t. They say that the VA didn’t put some code in my TSP that says I’m not working for the VA any longer. So it’s stuck in there. I spent a dozen hours trying to resolve it. You can’t. I’ll be able
To get it when I hit retirement age - lol. You can’t make this up.

I imposed a ban on myself from buying from the mint about 40 years ago. One of the best decisions I have ever made.
