Scratched up NGC XF sold for $8000 in auction.
Think mine has more eye appeal and can be bought for less.
I bought the pictured 1862-S $5 raw.
There are scratches in the left obverse field that unfortunately prevents it from getting straight grade.
Grade came back AU Details.
AU 53 has price guide of $30,000.
There are an estimated 65 in existence according to CoinFacts.
Ideal coin ? No!
Amazingly rare? Yes!
The Trueview shows coin as an 1862 without the S mintmark. The coin is now back at PCGS where they are correcting error.

Please PM me if you’re interested in making an offer at a fraction of what it could have been.

It's graffiti because it's two scratches making a cross.

I know that, but I would think having a coin this rare would appeal to somebody.

You’d be better off naming an actual price if you truly want to sell. This is nowhere near a 30K coin with the obvious graffiti.

looks sorta similar to this one: https://coins.ha.com/itm/liberty-half-eagles/half-eagles/1862-s-5-xf40-ngc-pcgs-8293-/a/1348-4918.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515

You might try grading it at NGC. This one they straight graded XF40 despite a very similar look and scratches in the obverse field. Seems price guide is way off though as this one only sold for $8000 as straight graded XF.

So the scratches have to make some sort of vague shape to be considered graffiti? A single deeper scratch would straight grade?
