You tell me why I would buy this.

As a bonus, guess how much I paid for it in dollars and what country it is shipping from.

My guess is $27.63 and Australia (I have seen numerous seated liberty dimes and half dimes on ebay from an australian seller)
Coincidentally, I was looking at ebay listings earlier today and saw a different 1872 dime that had a higher bid than I thought it should, it wasn't the DDR but I found out about it while doing research, turns out the 1872 has a surprisingly low survival rate compared to some others with similar mintages, and that might explain the price

$9.69 is very good! You did well. How much is shipping from Germany?

Don't post cherrypicks until they're in hand. Never know where a seller is lurking and will pull the coin/cancel the sale.

That includes shipping. It was like €4 shipping or something.

I hope that doesn’t happen. I don’t think that they know about it though.

The issue is if someone here sees this post and then decides the seller should know about it, and they take it upon themselves to see that it happens. It's a low move, but it's happened plenty of times. Delaware's advice is good advice.

    It arrived!

I did get the exact coin. It is low grade, but I think that it was a good buy for $9.69. Here are my pictures.

I know that as a group we don’t like microscope shots, but I didn’t have a better way to show the DDR, as the above pictures are pretty bad.

There are good photos of a high grade coin with this DDR on Gerry Fortin's site,
in case you would like to see the markers:

I knew the variety because I was the one who figured out that it was a super wild doubled die with almost 180 degree rotation between impressions. A collector had sent it to Bill Fivaz as a possible dual denomination clash mark, and Bill sent it to me because I am good at figuring stuff out. I looked at it for a while and it just popped into my head. I called Bill and said “Are you sitting down?”

Do you have any idea as to what prices this DDR has sold for in the past, and how many are estimated to survive? From what I have been able to find, the price guides jump all over the place.

By the way, that was an amazing discovery that you made with this.

On Gerry's site you can look at his Sales Archive.
Most of the sold examples are in higher grades, but it shows:
    $35 F-105 G-06 raw
    $75 F-115 VG-10 PCGS
    https://www.seateddimevarieties.com/SalesArchive.html

Gerry estimates these varieties are R5 and the prices should be 2000-3000% above the price for a normal 1872.

Thanks for that resource. I had never seen that before. Also, I would like to know what the differences are between the F-105 and F-115 obverses.

[F-115] Further study revealed that the date punch was slightly more left than Variety 105. On Variety 105, the DR measurement is 0B1 while the Greer coin measured 0R.

Look at the link provided by yosclimber above. Go to the site. Look at the leaf running at an angle through the E of DIME. That is the leaf running above the O of ONE. Then just orient all of the other details from that.

You can see evidence above "one", in the O of "one", in the D and E of "dime", and to the left of the D in "dime".
